“The number one place to eat”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

It has become a tradition for my family to eat at the Peddler every time we come to Gatlinburg. They have the best steaks and salad bar in town. The atmosphere is from romance to family friendly.

I recently visited the Peddler as a part of a group, and had mixed emotions. They have a very interesting menu system. The Peddler requires that all guests wanting an entree must begin with the Salad bar. While this is a VERY good salad bar containing MANY fresh and appetizing toppings, it also costs in excess of $12 just for the salad bar... Ordering an entree costs an additional fee on top of that although it is packaged as a combo deal. For instance, a 10oz Ribeye is approximately $28 of which the Salad Bar is a mandatory inclusion.. therefore the steak is only about $16... BUT ... it's really not that great. You are paying the extra for a guy to slice ribeye's and new york strips right next to the table for a couple minutes, and then take them back to the kitchen to cook. The steak was ok, but for a couple it cost over $75 for 2 entrees and no drinks (tip was included in large party bill). This wouldn't be an issue if it was an amazing steak, but I've honestly had steaks just as good if not better from national chains. I personally recommend going one time just to say you went, but that's about it... nothing amazing, and nothing about the food to write home about. The service was great, but the food was Meh.

“never disappointed!”

always great food, great service. I would tell you how much time you save by calling ahead for seating, but want to keep that a secret so everyone doesn't do it! you will never go wrong with their salad bar and hand cut steaks.

“The Peddler - Best Steak In Gatlinburg”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

When in Gatlinburg, you must make time to eat at the The Peddler Steakhouse. Yes, it is always crowded, but the wait is worth it.

Tip #1: To avoid a potential long wait period, simply go into the bar / lounge area and take an open table. Usually there is a table or two open. From there, simply place your dinner order when the waitress comes by.

We took the lounge option and and found a table upstairs. The view is nice, overlooking a small river running beside and under the restaurant.

As on cue, the waitress asked if we were here for dinner or just drinks. We choose option dinner and drinks. After we ordered, we headed downstairs to the salad bar. And when I say salad bar, I mean amazing salad bar. As you can see by the pictures, I had of course lettuce as a base, several types of cheese, carrots, celery, hard boiled egg halves, green olives, real chopped bacon, (Not the cheap fake bacon bits from other salad bars) and about another half dozen items piled high on my salad plate. The salad was tremendous.

As if on cue, as soon as we finished our salads, our steaks were delivered. I order the Filet Mignon well done and butterflied and a baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly and it tasted fantastic. No doubt the best steak in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The baked potato was well cooked and smothered with butter which was perfect.

For dessert, we shared a piece of cheesecake covered with strawberries. It was the perfect topper for a splendid meal.
