Good location. Really nice room. Nice view from the balcony. Breakfast was good. The only problem was the elevator not working on at least two mornings and the teenage staff was very rude, someone needs to give them a lesson in public service. The adult staff was fine. Also, before you buy your "discount" tickets to area attractions from the hotel, check the prices. We got overcharged for the aquarium because we bought them at the hotel and not the aquarium itself.

  • Liked — Good location and nice room.
  • Disliked — Snobby rude teenage staff and no internet connection available.

We enjoyed our stay at Bearskin Lodge so much last year that we are returning in October for another stay. We loved the location of Bearskin Lodge--within walking distance of town with a trolley stop just outside of the hotel. Also, Bearskin Lodge is situated just at the entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park, so it was easy for us to get into the park. Bearskin Lodge was much cleaner than several other hotels we experienced in Gatlinburg over the years. The rooms are large, too (big enough for a twin-size air mattress on the floor with room to spare). We are not wasting our money on a room with a balcony over the river this year, though, because we were never in the room enough to sit on the balcony. Plus, the balcony looks straight into the hotel rooms across the river, so it wasn't private. The free breakfast had a lot of variety--the usual waffles, but also cereal, toast, fruit, boiled eggs, grits, oatmeal, juices, hot chocolate, coffee, milk, danish, muffins, etc. An attendant was on hand throughout the breakfast to make sure everything stayed stocked and clean. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful to us. Yes, the elevator is slow, but we were on vacation and not in a hurry! The lazy river was very nice, and even though the pool is small, it is still relaxing. We loved the rocking chairs at the entrance to the hotel, and we wanted to bring one home with us! They gave my mother the AARP discount even though she forgot to ask when we checked in. We also loved the lodge look of the room and the lobby! The mattresses in the room seemed new and were very comfortable. I have terrible back problems, but I never had a problem during our stay. The mattresses were firm but not hard, so I was very pleased. We would highly recommend Bearskin Lodge if you don't mind a hotel in town. Since we had our 12 year old son with us, he enjoyed being close to town in the evening where we could walk or take the trolley, and we loved being so close to the park entrance where we could avoid the main street traffic. Even though it was in town, the room was very quiet and peaceful. The fireplace was nice but more for show than function. I look forward to returning! Enjoy your stay!

  • Liked — Very comfortable bed, large room, easy access to National Park and Gatlinburg.
  • Disliked — Balcony in room looked directly into rooms in hotel across the stream.

We stayed for 2nights at this facility and that was ENOUGH!
The first night we stayed, we turned our bed down and the sheets were dirty. We called the front desk and had to get our own sheets and make our own bed. If that was not bad, there was never an appolgy given to us.
The lodge is not kept up and quite dirty.
Customer service is NOT AT THIS LODGE!

I would not recommend this lodge to another guest.

My biggest concern when arriving was the staff based on the reviews I read here. Actually, they were all helpful. One of the night staff didn't know if they still had the 2 day Dollywood tickets and asked me to ask the front desk in the morning. I did and got the tickets. The lazy river was fun and the other pool was rarely crowded.
Pros:
Hotel was clean
Off main drag near Park

Cons
1 Elevator for entire building. You will learn to use the stairs.
No luggage racks in room
Breakfast was not bad...but average
At far end of strip so some things are more than a mile a way to walk to.
Stream view is really a view of another hotel.
Lobby is very small.

All in all it's a fine hotel. Not really a lodge feeling. I would probably try another hotel next time.

Their website looks advanced and the pictures look inviting...
DONT BE FOOLED...! The rooms were dark and dingey they only provided one pillow each to sleep on, (the rest were "scatter cushions") and under the BearSkin theme bedcovers were tatty old blankets that should be thrown out. Yuk. Like another review said, the small fridge was unstable and poked underneath the sink, not even housed in, like an extra they forgot about when designing the place. Our drinks fell out and broke on the floor. The shower only had 2 settings hot or cold. The staff were unbearable. There were no other amenities or places for the kids to wander about and play safely inside. The lobby was the smallest Ive ever been into. It all looks so lovely from the outside, and then theres the lazy river - the smallest river Ive ever seen! but for the price of the rooms (and we had a 10% military disc too) it was overpriced and over rated...Skip this hotel and move onto something better. Infact why even bother booking, there are so manymore hotels once you are there, bound to find a room without booking ahead.

The hotel looked great from the outside and the inside but staff was not very friendly. They acted as if they did not care about their jobs. Some did not seem as if they knew their jobs very well. Needed help from other staff members. There were no friendly greetings nor were they too helpful with information. We had five in our party and we asked for a roll-away bed and were told quite blatantly they did not have any. The view from the back is great if you like staring across to the next hotel and into their rooms and parking garage. Great for peeping Toms! Don't be fooled by the attraction of the babbling mountain stream. It's the only thing that seperates you from the next hotel. There is no stream bank but ugly concrete walls on both sides. If you stay at this hotel get a room on the front side with a balcony which over looks the pools.
The positive side is that the rooms were very roomy and clean. I loved the smoky cabin like smell of the lodge. The design of the lodge was great but very small lobby area and hallway to elevators. Elevators were hot and so was stairway area. Pools were small but unique. The small refrigerator was under the bathroom sink. Was not level and items we had in there kept falling out. Solved that problem by placing an unrapped bar of soap they supply under one of the feet. Inprovements could be better placement of the refrigerator and placing a microwave in rooms. Plenty of places to put both in room.
Was our first visit to Gatlinburg. Next visit will be at a hotel away from the main drag. So many hotels so close together. For the price I expected more. If you care about getting your moneys worth spend extra for the five star hotels. Otherwise the cheaper hotels are just as good.

  • Liked — Smoky cabin smell and cabin like qualities. Access to shops and dining. Whirlpool and fireplace. Rooms very roomy.
  • Disliked — Unfriendly and not too helpful front desk staff. Hotel too close another hotel. View in back of bubbling mountain stream not as appealing as advertisement would have you think.

This hotel has a very friendly staff that was always willing to help us with any questions we had. The rooms are very nice, clean, and larger than the average room. Great fireplace and large whirlpool tub. Parking is under hotel, great for hot days, with easy access to hotel. The balcony view is right over the river, a great way to relax and help drown out the traffic noise. The location is good because it is at the end of town away from all of the traffic. We are repeat customers and usually stay there every time we go to the Smokies.
