“Cool room! HORRIBLE STAFF!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

I stayed their with my family. The room was nice, and clean (or at least as clean as it can get). The carpets would make by feet dirty, but they weren't the worst like the carpets at the four seasons in Gatlinburg. We got a lot of use out of the fireplace, and the balcony. The jacuzzi in the middle of the room was odd but fun! The staff is the worst! If it were up to me I would fire all of them and get a whole new group. The people at the front desk had no concern for you whatsoever. If you needed something they were no interested in helping, you. Like my dad had went to get extra coffee packets and the lady had brought out 3 packs and handed them to him, she then preceded to yell at him saying he can only have 2 and took 1 right out of his hands. I had no idea why she would do something like that! Also several times the staff would eat all over the front desk and talk on their cells to their friends. There was always a long line at the front desk if you needed anything cause they were all so LAZY and RUDE! Also the cleaning lady's are also horrible! There is a "policy" at the hotel that it is "non smoking" yet our maid smoked in our hallway and in our room! It was awful. We asked her not to smoke sevreral times and even told the front desk! Nothing was done. After that she began cleaning our room sloppy, beds wouldn't be fully made and then no new towels. Trash would not be all taken out. Then I started to miss items. I left a ring, a pair of earnings, and some earphones on the side table , they had gone missing. Never found them. We had told the front desk, apparently the maid accidentally "threw them out in the trash". That is absolutely whatsoever no acceptable. I had a fun vacation, but next time I will be looking for a better hotel. One with actually decent staff.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

The Bearskin is located on the upper end of the River Road in Gatlinburg which is fairly easy to access from Pigeon Forge. It's location, being right next to one of the best running trails around (adjacent to the water plant) makes it great for people who like to run or walk. The Hotel itself is fairly expensive for the size room that you get and as far as room there are better options in this area of town. The breakfast was ok but nothing to write home about. The pool was clean and the lazy river was ok but not great. In general the housekeeping is good.

From the online pictures at their website and from the exterior of the hotel it appears to be nice. Inside there is no lobby area (which you would expect from a "lodge"). The rooms were so-so and the river view was a view of a parking garage. The room smelled stale. Location is ok but not on the strip.

The staff was excellent. I made reservations only a week ahead for two rooms. Rates were good. Staff was excellent when I wanted to change a room so I would have adjoining rooms. They even discounted my rate. Rooms are large.

Pool area was fun. My 7 year old niece loved the lazy river. The pool was small and the lazy river was small. But when you put the entire pool area together with the two fire pits, you have a very nice area. Especially when you think how space in Gatlinburg is limited.

Location is excellent. Great resturants next door.

Only negative is the carpet through out the hotel needs to be replaced. Our room, when first arrived, had A/C off and was musty smeeling. Bring you some Freebreeze.

If you stay here, try to request a room on the north end of hotel. Better view of river and farther away from south street noise.

Room Tip: If you stay here, try to request a room on the north end of hotel. Better view of river and farther...

As mentioned by numerous other guests the staff is certainly lacking in friendliness and hospitality. To put it simple downright rude at times from the front desk to the dining area. Other than the staff the location and comfort of the hotel is great. What is most disturbing is they don't seem to care either if the customer is not satisfied as observed by many of the other guests that were there at the same time we were. This is a shame because as I noted above it has a lot of potential for a great hotel. Note to staff - put a smile on your face, welcome your guests, do not eat at the counter in front of the guests and show some interest when a guest comes to you with a concern (even if you can't do anything about it).

This is a lodge this is good for a weekend trip, but no more. The rooms were nothing special (and we had a river balcony room) and moderately clean (could have been better). We found it very odd that the jacuzzi tub was right in the bedroom instead of in a private room. Traveling with our two teenage kids basically ruled out the possibility of our relaxing together in the tub. The lobby is extremely small so don't plan on hangin' with friends and family in there with a drink in hand. In consideration of the price of each room I would have expected the staff to be a least friendly. The lobby is tiny and yet those manning the front desk NEVER greeted us when we entered the lobby, they just ignored us. Very disappointing. The breakfast was lame. The pool and lazy river are both tiny, although they are nicely landscaped for privacy. The location is the best part about this lodge. We were able to walk into National Park, walk to the Gatlinburg strip stores (village), restaurants, fishing, etc. I would definitely explore other options before returning to this lodge.

Most of the nicer hotels I looked at, including this one where all around $100. This hotel backed up to a nice river that we could hear when we opened the doors. Great sound to sleep too. Beds were comfy and place was clean.
The breakfast was average for a mid- level hotel. Definitely better than nothing when traveling with two hungry boys :)

Great location at the base of the smoky mountains and at the far end of the neon chaos of Gatlinburg.
