Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort & Spa
Ranked #26 of 78 Hotels in Gatlinburg
Reviewed December 9, 2013

I had a nice time at this resort. This was the first visit to the smoky mountains for my family. The staff was extremely helpful. There is a LARGE waterpark on the property. The waterpark was a great release for my daughter. The weather was cold; but the waterpark offered better climate for us. The unit had a fireplace that we took full advantage of.I cooked Thanksgiving dinner in the fully equipped kitchen.
We were given a tour of the property.
Located at the very top of the mountain area is new construction. The new area is very scenic.
I could just imagine waking up in the morning to this view. The mountains demonstrate the majesty
of GOD. My family enjoyed the visit to Dollywood also. Stay at westgate if you are in this area.

Room Tip: If possible try to see if rooms are available with the best view of mountains.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit reluctant to stay here. I am glad we did. Our condo was nicely decorated and very comfortable. It had a balcony, a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. The end of October was a beautiful time in the Smokies. We could see the turning leaves right from our condo. The kitchen was furnished well enough to do some cooking, and the unit was extremely clean. Our condo was way up on a hill and on the third floor. - no elevators. There were no parking spots in front of our unit, so it was a bit of a slog getting our luggage up the hill, and up three floors of steps. We are senior citizens, so if you are not in good shape, you may want to be placed somewhere else. The concierge who escorted us to our room called the porter to take up our luggage, but he never came.

The one area where the resort could improve is check-in. There is not much parking in front of the lobby, but someone guides you to a space. You are immediately assigned a concierge by one of the attendants in the lot. The attendant promises you the moon to go on a timeshare tour. We were so tired, it was just easier to agree to go on the tour with the concierge. The attendant said the tours had to modified so there would be no pressure to by. We finally were able to get in line for check-in. There are two lines - one for guests, and one for owners. The line for guests were short, but the line for owners was really long. I could not figure out why they would treat guests better than owners.

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant our first evening. I would say it was just average, but after a long day driving, it was certainly fine. Our concierge called us almost everyday to see how we are doing. We decided not to go on the timeshare tour after reading some Trip Advisor reviews on how people felt about them. We easily able to cancel without pressure.

This is definitely a very nice place close to the park. I would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: Check if there is parking near your unit, otherwise you could have a long walk.

We're very glad, too, that you chose to stay with us. You are correct, October in the Smokies means one can revel in the wonder of the changing seasons and the explosion of colors. It's nice to know that you found your unit clean and enjoyed the ability to cook your own meals. We thank you for your suggestions regarding check in. As you mentioned, we are close to the park, as well as to downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It would be our pleasure to have you come back again!

Sincerely,
David

We stayed here along with our 2 preschool age grandchildren. The waterpark was a perfect place to bring them where they were safe and had a lot of fun.
The kitchen was not as well equipped as I would have liked since we did all our own cooking, but when we asked for certain items, they were delivered to our door very quickly, so I cannot complain!

Room Tip: Pull out mattresses are not comfortable. They are quite old so don't plan on using the pull out...

We were so glad that my best friend let us used her timeshare in Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort as her gift for our honeymoon. The resort is superb in every areas, facilities, amenities and services. So we are so blessed for such a wonderful vacation we had in this place.
Actually, this is my 2nd time to experience checking in a west gate resort. The first one is in Orlando, Fl.
I love it. The 2 places that I've been are both very well kept.
Keep up the good work folks!!!
Worthy to be recommended to friends and relatives.

Although we did not get to view all of the amentities (to anxious to get off the property and enjoy Gatlinburg) on the property, we were impressed with our accommodations, which included a fireplace. However, we had problems with the fireplace working in our unit; it was eventually fixed for the second time, but that was disappointing. I regret paying so much for the room. We paid $401 to stay two nights, and was charged over $20 in fees once we arrived. Because we paid in advance, we were kind of stuck with the price. I feel really cheating knowing that one of the other reviewers paid way less. I would not recommend paying in advance. The bell man assigned to us was very helpful in explaining everything to us, and I found guest services to be extremely pleasant when talking to them on the phone. However, we had the worse experience in the restaurant. We sat for an hour, and still had not received our food (it was NOT crowded). We reported it to the manager, but really was not satisfied with his response. We eventually packed up our things, and on the way out, my husband stopped by to speak with the manager again, and was given the food for 1/2 price. However, I still was not happy, because several items were cold, and several items were missing. I would not go back to the restaurant or recommend it to anyone staying there. This experience kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, and probably prompted me to be more critical of other things as it relates to the property.

Room Tip: There were three adults and one 10mth old child. We had the 1 bedroom, King bed and queen sleeper so...
