We had a great time at the Westgate Smoky Mtn Resort. Our room was in the first tower near the lobby, the pool and the indoor water park. We loved being close to everything. Some complained about lack of the view (which was amazing from the top of the resort), but for our family who traveled with two preschoolers it was perfect.

The indoor park was ok. I don't think it was worth the $$.

There were kids activities, but we did not participate in any.

We only had breakfast at the restaurant on the property. For $8.95 you can get a full breakfast buffet. We chose unlimited pancakes for $4.95. The pancakes were HUGE. We did not get seconds. There are two grocery stores nearby.

Westgate is very close to the Smoky Mtn National Park. We did hikes/nature drives in the morning, pool in the afternoon and Gatlinburg at night. The trolley ($1 RT) was very convenient and we took it each time we went downtown.

Great trip! We'll be back.

We were very impressed with our recent stay at the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort, and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone – particularly families – wishing to enjoy all that the Smokies and Gatlinburg area have to offer.

We own with another time-share company, Diamond International, and find time-share accommodations work very well for our family. We have four children ranging in age from 7 to 21, so we highly value space and flexibility. Reviews of time-share properties often seem to misunderstand the concept; it is important to recognize that these resorts are not hotels. The maid does not come into the room to clean and change the linen every day. We particularly enjoy the space of timeshare apartments and willingly trade the services of a traditional hotel for the independent living of a time-share apartment.

We exchanged via Interval International to stay here. We think this review is fair and accurate of Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort as a time-share property. We look for quality accommodations, helpful staff and pleasant facilities and location, and have had a variety of experiences over the years in the US and Europe. Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort ranks up there with the very best we have stayed in.

We really liked the location of the resort. It is not on the Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge strips. It is located _just_ outwith the national forest with an entrance off the parkway between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. This made it easy to drive everywhere but gave us a calm and peaceful resort experience, despite the fact that we were only a few minutes away from the commerce of the main tourist areas.

The resort is large but very clean and well-staffed. There are security people at the gate 24 hours a day and the front desk was staffed at all hours of the night. There are trolleys around the resort and to nearby areas, but we drove around the resort or when we left. Again in response to another reviewer, we have a large vehicle and had no problem parking, nor did we find the spots small. We did see other guests parking in the fire lanes, which is very disappointing behaviour on their part.

We were a little skeptical about the policy of placing your trash on the curb, but after seeing it disappear within the hour every time and seeing the mother bear and her three cubs walking around, which was a huge event for the kids, we agreed with the policy.

We did not visit either of the onsite pools, which were quite small, but we did visit the waterpark one afternoon and had a great time. We also used the onsite gym, which was excellently equipped and maintained. There are kids’ (and adult) organized activities, but not a gym childcare facility or “parents night out” childcare, so if you have small kids you will probably need to stagger your gym hours. It is open 24 hours a day, by the way. The waterpark closes at 7pm or we would have used it more. As it was, by the time we returned from Dollywood, Splash Country or the National Park, we were usually too late.

With respect to the unit, we were really impressed. Check-in was quick (less than 10 minutes), polite and painless. We were assigned a very nice concierge and we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to a very large two double unit at the top of the mountain. Our concierge graciously allowed our two young daughters to ride up the mountain in the golf cart with her, which was a great hit. At our arrival to the unit, on the fourth floor of building 3000 (an elevator building), she took the time to explain the property and show us the amenities. (In response to some other reviewers, we should add here that a tip is appropriate in these circumstances, just as it is when a bellhop shows you to your room in a nice hotel. Don’t be cheap!) We were asked to undertake a “survey” on the property and, while we knew immediately this would be a sales pitch, we were happy to make an appointment to attend, especially given the treatment we had received. Everyone has to make a living, right?

We had a beautiful one-bedroom unit for the adults with a huge king-size bed, a plasma television and a Jacuzzi in the room. We had a shower with the traditional shower head from the wall and a “rainshower” head that came down from the ceiling. There was a double sink and locking separate room for the toilet. There was a full kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, large refrigerator and a separate clothes washer and dryer tastefully placed in a closet. The large dining table separated the living room from the kitchen in an open plan. The living had two nice leather couches (one a queen sleeper), another plasma television and a gas fire log. We had a nice balcony that gave us great views of Obergatlinberg and the Smokies (see pictures).

The kids had their own adjoining one-bedroom lockoff apartment with bath and mini-kitchen. Both bedroom and livingroom (again with a leather sleeper sofa) in their apartment also had plasma TVs. Each TV had cable and a DVD player. Altogether, we had could have slept 8, comfortably and with privacy.

We were very impressed with the quality of the furnishings and the tasteful interior decorating. The interior designer and the buyer have done a great job of purchasing quality furniture, rugs, wall decorations and lighting that are placed in an excellent woodlands motif. It manages to be rustic without being cheesy; authentic and still extremely comfortable. The beds are superb.

We found the salespitch a little tedious for people who already own timeshare. We don’t need to be sold on the concept but want an honest explanation of the facilities and costs. We’d suggest stripping away some of the fluff and sexism (“the little woman is the one I talk to”) and a presentation limited to one hour might be more productive. There is, of course, no obligation to attend (unless you go on a very discounted sales experience, in which case that’s what you signed up for!).

Our whole family agreed that the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort was one of our best resort experiences: the property is well maintained and equipped; everything was scrupulously clean; the staff were always friendly; the location is great and the views are superb. We made a point of speaking with Mr Fishlock, the Manager, to tell him how much we had enjoyed the resort and were really delighted with how invested he is in each guest’s stay. He runs an extremely professional team. Congratulations! We can’t wait to return.

Thank you for the wonderful review of our property. I do agree with you that this review is fair and accurate. I also believe that the overwhelming majority of the owners and guests who stay with us share your views to one degree or another. The number of negative comments posted on this web site amounts to less than one half of one percent of the families that stay with us on a monthly basis. Thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback. I do hope to see you and your family in the future.

The drive was scenic, the accomodations were ok and the amenities are great for families (with kids). If you go to the resort on one of those discounted weekends with the agreement to take the timeshare tour, be aware the salesperson will go "all out" to make everything seem great. For the most part it all seemed above board and we felt this would be a good opportunity for us (newly empty nesters) as we want to start more vacationing. But, once we signed on the dotted line and returned to our home as new Timeshare owners, we realized that some of the things mentioned/offered in our presentation were missing from our package. With several calls and messages left for our salesperson, his manager and the person completing our closing for the property (and no return calls from any of them), we still haven't recieved the missing documents. We did speak to the Closing Mgr twice and he promised to put the documents in the mail, but nothing has been done to this date. Our thoughts now are whether or not we made a good choice and whether or not to refer others in fear they may have the same or a worse experience. Once you sign, it appears they are just focused on getting to the next couple (to sign) and not concerned about you anymore.

My family loved the Smoky Mountain Resort, this has been the only vacation location where no one wanted to leave and come home from. It was very relaxing and serene. The view is unlike any other I've seen in my fifty-two years of traveling and living. Do not deny yourself this experience; yes, different strokes for different folks, but for me and my family this the right one baby! I look forward to the Las Vegas and Utah locations, my ownership is the highlight of my vacationing life!

Room tip: If you prefer quiet reserve a villa on the top level or a pedestal so as not to be annoyed by small children running accross the floors ove.

My wife & i purchased a 2 bedroom Florida Westgate Timeshare in 2002 after we got married & before we had kids. Over all have had a very good experience with our Florida Timeshare not only going to Florida with our kids but also to Las Vegas and my mother, aunts & uncles use it as well.
The last time we were in Florida at our resort they pushed a little to far & i had enough and left, after that my wife & i wanted out of the Florida Timeshare property she even wanted to sell it. That said about Florida, alot of people questioned why we exchanged our Florida week for a week at the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort the answer was simple a change of pace, peace & quite ( a hard thing to come by when you have kids yelling and screaming). We made it VERY clear upon our arrival we had no time to spend taking a tour. we stayed in a 2 bedroom villa, the kids (boys ages 5 & 3) had there own room & my wife & i had our own bedroom. the rooms are very spacious & nice decor. the negatives were the carpet had visible stains the safe in the kids room didnt close, the shade on the door to the balcony was damaged, and the common hall door stop was hanging off the wood and had stopped working cause-ing damage to the wall from the doow handle. when we identified these problems no sooner had we hung up the phone that about a dozen people (including a supervisor) came to address the issues with the exception of the sfae which had to be fixed by security ( 2 guys from security came about 20 minute after the 1st group got there.
The staff were very helpful & attentive, before my family & i left we had traded in our Florida 2 bedroom unit for a 3 bedroom unit here at Westgate Smoky Moutain Resort. Yes timeshares cost some money you have to do a lot of research before purchasing 1 otherwise you will regret it. always insist on the 90 minutes but keeping them aware of what time the tour started and call out the time to them. my kids had a great time especially when they found out that there was a mommy bear with 3 cubs nearby. they talked about the vacation all the way home when they were awake. oh almost forgot, the pans in the villa absolutely sucked to use for cooking eggs, french toast & pancakes, it might have been because it was an electric stove. we didnt use the spa here at this resort on this trip as we didn't have sitters with us, oh and another thing the westgate smokehouse grill for dinner.....don't do it the food was lousy, dog food would have been better. the indoor water park was and is great for the kids. the pizza there at the water park was aweful. i keep forgetting stuff to say, they are still constructing new units.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay with us. I’m very happy to hear that you exchanged your T/S from Florida to Gatlinburg, TN. I’m sure you will enjoy it here in Eastern Tennessee. It’s a wonderful place to vacation. My apologies for some of the issues you experienced in your unit, however, it was very nice to hear that our staff was helpful and attentive in taking care of these issues. I’m sorry to hear that you were not happy with the food quality in the Smoke House Grill. Honestly, the overwhelming majority of the owners and guests who dine in the SHG absolutely love the food quality and the great service. Hopefully the next time you are here, you’ll stop into the restaurant to give us another chance.

Sincerely,
