“Great room, awesome pool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2014

We had a great two room suite with a balcony overlooking the sunrise over the Great Smoky Mountains. The second room had bunk beds and fun rocking chairs for the kids. The pool area was like a mini indoor water park with a spiral slide, a spa and other fun features.

The view from our room was amazing. We woke up to the sunrise over the mountains. There was live music happening when we checked in and a welcome cookie for my husband and I. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I loved the location and that it wasn't in the center of downtown gatlinburg, yet if you wanted to go downtown there was a very convenient shuttle. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is located in the beautiful mountains of Gatlinburg. The hotel was probably quite a beauty back in the 70s, but time has passed. The rooms are still nice enough, but things like the beds are well worn.

The pool was the highlight for the kids. With two pools and slides it kept them busy for a couple hours.

Overall a solid value.

Dear Matthew C;
Thank you for staying with us. The pool is certainly a hit with visitors of all ages, glad your children enjoyed the area. We did undergo major renovations in 2010 as we converted to a DoubleTree by Hilton. As with many properties we do go under major changes every year as we continue to maintain and keep our properties up to date. Hope you will visit with us again soon.

Round hotel higher with great views of city and mountains from room balconies or firepit outside at nice bar. Service was very friendly. Rooms are very clean except for a few carpet stains. Smokie Mt Park and Roaring Forks drive is beautiful and right behind hotel--much closer than entrance at south end of Gatlinburg. Trolley service available for small fee.

Dear Danakn;
Thank you for staying with us and sharing your experience. The views certainly are spectacular even from the parking lot. And the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail at the base of our drive is a hit with many of the guests in the Gatlinburg area. It actually was one of the top 10 attractions in Gatlinburg in a recent survey.

Smooth and friendly check - in, wonderful and helpful staff, clean rooms, crispy smooth sheets. Front desk checked on us after arriving and settling in which was very thoughtful. Loved the fact hotel is secluded and shuttle ride 50 cents a person will take you anywhere. Saturday evening band was a plus. Lobby is very impressive. The stay was a great value

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

This was not like any Double Tree Hotel I've ever seen. The location was not at all what I expected. It is up a steep mountain road, and I actually went down the wrong road, and ended up on a scary, twisty, scenic drive late at night. When you arrive, even if your GPS tells you you're on the right road, be sure you are driving in right where the entrance sign is located. I went to the right, thinking it was part of the same road, and the road by the sign looked narrow and in the dark, I mistakenly thought it was the exit. This was a mistake that caused me a lot of stress since the little road I ended up driving up had no easy area to turn around, so I kept going up, up, up, in the darkness. Saying I was scared is an understatement. I was terrified, and I was imagining our car going over the side of this road in the dark. Once we turned around and got back to the hotel entrance, I'd lost about half an hour of time, and we were pretty shook up.

The lobby area of the hotel is beautiful. There are glass elevators and a cool central area where you can watch them ascend. There's a lot of seating and areas for people to use the free WiFi that is available in the lobby and other public areas. The staff at the front desk was friendly. Our room, unfortunately, was on the second floor and it was described as a balcony/limited view room. It was a big disappointment. It had no view, unless you count the sight of the roof and the green stuff that was growing on the balcony. We didn't even step out onto it. The beds were comfortable and there was nothing wrong with the room, aside from it seeming a little worn and old. We ordered room service and spent way too much for a cardboard flavored pizza, but I was afraid to drive down the mountain road again in the dark, so I felt like we were stuck at the hotel. In the middle of the night, a giant black bug was crawling across my bathroom floor. I killed it but then I spent the next few minutes putting all of our luggage and belongings up off of the floor, and checking the beds for any other bugs. When I told the front desk clerk about the bug when we were checking out, she gave us each a cookie, and said that since the hotel is in a national park, bugs are to be expected. I am not impressed.

The next morning, my son enjoyed the pool area. It opens early, so we had time for him to swim before the check out time. It's a nice area, with a kiddie pool and a bigger pool, both have slides. There is seating, but it was on a lower level than the pools, and there's no lifeguard on duty, so I didn't feel like it was safe to not be closer to the pool. I ended up moving a heavy chair up to the deck area near the pool. They really need to have chairs up there so that parents can better supervise their kids.

The best thing this hotel has going for it is apparently the view, so we missed out on that with our lower level room. The pool is nice, but not great for adults. It was shallow and small, but great for kids. The location is not convenient if you plan to walk to the attractions in the strip area of Gatlinburg. There is a trolley that pics up in the parking lot, though, so although we didn't use it, that was a nice convenience. I really can't give a hearty recommendation for this hotel. It was overpriced, and not as nice as other Double Tree locations I've been to in other cities. The cookies were good, but everything else was just mediocre.

Room Tip: Get a room on an upper level if you want a good view.

Dear Skye9988;
I am sorry that you took the Motor Nature Scenic trail when you first arrived rather than our drive. That trip is a beautiful one however not so much in the darkness. Our property is located adjacent to the Nation Park and is very different than most city properties. Again I am sorry that you were disappointed in our property.

We were pleasantly surprised at the location of the hotel. The view was awesome, the room was clean and spacious. The bedding and beds very comfy, clean, and of good quality. The location was very convenient. Other than confusion regarding a $5 appetizer coupon, the room rate was fair. We highly recommend The Park Vista Double Tree Hilton Hotel.
