This hotel was a huge disappointment! Not enough parking, loud street, rats running around in lower level parking, rooms that smelled like urine, entry door did not properly close, bathroom was old and outdated, breakfast room was too small and cramped. The not so private river view balcony is a nice touch, but not worth all of the above mentioned shortcomings. I am losing my faith in the Choice Hotels brand.

Really enjoyed sitting on the balcony listening to the water. Was a little afraid from past reviews that the road noise would be a problem, but with the air on you could barely hear any noise from the road. Room was
spacious and clean. Breakfast was really good!

My family and I (two adults and two boys, 8 and 3) decided to stop over in Gatlinburg after a week at the beach. We are used to staying in your average Hampton Inn-type hotel. In the numerous reviews on multiple websites, the Comfort Inn On The River appeared to be very similar to the hotels in which we were used to staying. It was not. The hotel's websites said that it had undergone a refurbishment in 2012. It did appear to have been refurbished, however it looked like it had been done by some beginner do-it-yourselfers. The room was as we had reserved; two queen beds, TV, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, etc. Also, the hotel is advertised as non-smoking and the room smelled that it was, in fact, smoke-free. However, the room still felt that it wasn't as clean as we are used to. The shower in the very small bathroom was somewhat black where the wall met the tub. It was difficult to fall asleep because the room was very loud. The noise from the road was so loud that we checked to see if a window was open. None were open. Additionally, the door had to be pulled rather forcefully in order for it to latch. The next morning, we went downstairs for the free breakfast and it was packed. People were even sitting in the "lobby" with their plates on their laps. We ended up going to a restaurant for breakfast instead of basically eating standing up or taking it back to our room.

This hotel was not worth the $72 that we were charged. We will definitely not be staying there again, nor will we be recommending it to anyone. We will most likely tell people to avoid this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on the fourth floor and it was so loud that we may as well have been staying on the lowest...

Great overall experience, loved the river and having a balcony. Room was very clean and nice. All the staff were so friendly, would definitely stay here again. We liked the location, very close to downtown, but not right in middle of town.

Clean, nice looking room, fluffy pillows, plenty of pillows!, balcony overlooking the river, great location, nice people working there. The whole experience was just great! The price was great. The pool was clean and so nice! I definitely will stay again and recommend it to everyone.

Our room was quite nice (not outdated) and very clean. The bed linens were white, no stains, and in like-new condition. Nice, fluffy pillows. Carpeting was like new. Being on the 4th floor plus having our air conditioning/fan on all night must have shielded us from traffic noise other reviewers noted. Sitting on the balcony to enjoy the view and sound of the river was quite relaxing. The complimentary breakfast buffet was quite a treat--generous selection of both hot and cold foods. We especially recommend the well prepared scrambled eggs, sausage, make-it-yourself waffles, and blueberry muffins. Great coffee, too. The breakfast buffet attendant kept it well stocked and very clean. Hotel staff quite helpful and friendly. Trolley stop right next to the motel was very convenient. We didn't have even one thing to complain about. Will definitely stay there again.

My wife and I drove into town a day early and decided to stay here since it was cheap and close to downtown. Right away you can understand the going rate for staying here is what it is simply because the hotel is so close to the main drag into Gatlinburg. However, if you can get past the traffic noise and are a sound sleeper, this hotel is actually pretty decent for the money. We stayed on the third floor and you can tell they underwent some remodeling as the bathroom/sink area was nicely done leading out to the balcony with an impressive river view. They have an outdoor pool in a weird place, and it is a bit small, but we didn't have time to take a dip so I cannot accurately critique it. Breakfast was something else we didn't partake in but from past comfort inn breakfasts, they are usually better than average. Would I stay here for 3 or 4 nights? Probably not, but for less than $70 for a night we can't complain.
