We enjoyed our delicious pizza at Mellow Mushroom in Gatlinburg. The spacious interior and large booths are to be appreciated by a large family. We chose the outdoor seating overlooking the tourist town, and that was fun. I don't know if that seating might be hot on a really hot day, but it was pleasant the day we were there. The restaurant appeared to be clean, and the bathrooms were very nice.
Although our own waiter Bob was completely friendly and patient and helpful to us, service in general was nothing exceptional. Average or maybe even below average a bit would be a good mark. Personal hygiene and appearance seemed to be lacking, and there was no evidence of extreme southern hospitality that you might find in other restaurants. The service was not fast, but being on vacation, we were not looking for fast.
The pizza, on the other hand, was very tasty. We enjoyed pepperoni, Thai Dye, and the House Special. The crust has kind of a soft pretzel flavor, and the topping combinations were on the sweet side. We really appreciated the ability to split the selections among the pizzas in order to experience more specialties at one time.
Mellow Mushroom was fun and worth the stop, but it wasn't anything above average, and the hospitality was not overflowing even though the service was perfectly acceptable.
