“Yummy”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We ate several meals at the Smokehouse Grill on the resort property. The breakfast buffet was my favorite. The grandchildren enjoyed the pancakes and bacon/sausage, but I am a traditionalist liking the eggs, grits, sausage and biscuits.

“Stick to ribs at the Smokhouse Grill, avoid the meatloaf.”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

I have to agree with most of the reviewers that this restaurant was a disappointment overall.

It is very convenient if you are staying at the resort, the servers were attentive and friendly enough (although ours was clearly new to both the business and the area) - but the dinner itself left a lot to be desired.

We had tried the breakfast buffet one day and found it was decent, if nothing special.
The hot plates were typical buffet standards: powdered scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese, (stiff) pancakes, French toast, biscuits & gravy, grits, breakfast sausage, a selection mini-muffins, some fresh fruits, melon, yogurt & granola, and assorted cold cereal boxes for the kids. The one plus was the bacon: it was crispy and there was plenty of it. Our server was attentive on beverage refills and pleasant, so while breakfast didn't knock our socks off, it was serviceable enough.

We decided to give it another go for dinner on our last night for the sake of convenience, being we had a long drive the next morning.

We were put off to find out there was no tap beer available that day - but we made do with bottled Blue Moon served in proper pint glasses.

My Wife went with the baby-back ribs. She wisely asked for them dry, with the barbecue sauce on the side. The dry smoked ribs were actually good - but they would have been completely overpowered by the barbecue sauce. Don't let them drown the meat in the sauce; ask for it on the side.

I was looking or something a little more substantial and ordered the bacon-wrapped meatloaf & mashed potatoes.

I was thinking bread-loaf sized slices of seasoned ground beef mixed with crumbled Ritz crackers and heaping helping of fresh mashed potatoes swimming in a ladleful of mushroom brown gravy like Momma used to make - After all, we are in Tennessee: How wrong can you go with meatloaf, mashed, & gravy for down-home cooking, right? Well, I found out.

The meatloaf portion was generous, as I expected, but it was served as a single thick slice on top of a mashed potato base that was barely lukewarm. The meatloaf itself was pretty much just unseasoned ground chuck with little else mixed in, and it was so thick that the top dried out before the bottom got warm, leaving the bacon wrapping half cooked. The little gravy there was had been heated on the plate and congealed into a semi-solid that looked more like a glaze than gravy. Fortunately, there was ketchup on the table.

I was hungry so I ate most of it - but they've got a lot to learn about decent meatloaf.
What they served was more like an overcooked hamburger - and it was disappointing at that. You would think the restaurant would be an opportunity for the resort to showcase their hospitality, but they definitely did not put their best foot forward here.

The Smokehouse Grill was convenient, but there is much better down-home cooking to be had in both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. If you go, stick to the ribs.

“Dawn the bartender”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Dawn was our bartender at the resort. Very friendly and great service from Dawn. She even made our kids non alcoholic flavored slushies that made them very happy. Great bartender and server. :))

“Dawn the bartender was awesome, chef was horrible.”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

We are owners at this resort and by far Dawn is the best bartender we encountered. She is personable, has a great sense of humor and was serving great drinks. The restaurant portion wasn't as great. The food wasn't good and it was the most expensive place we ate at all week. Way over price. You need to bring back the RESTAURANT Chef from 2 years ago.
