“Can't Wait to go back!”
Reviewed August 27, 2010

We stopped at the Ole Smokey Distillery before they were allowed to sell their Moonshine and bought T-shirts etc. The employees were wonderful and friendly and we can't wait to get back to Gatlinburg to purchase several "jars"...we were given a jar of the Moonshine soaked Cherries by a friend and we love them. So we are going back to buy some more for our selves and for gifts to our friends!!!
We hope this becomes a popular stop for visitors to Gatlinburg!

“Tennessee Moonshine”
Reviewed August 18, 2010

We stopped in the here and it was a cute little store. You get to try samples of the two different moonshines and we also got to try a sample of the mixed drink Apple Pie. My husband bought a jar of the White Lightning Moonshine and they give you the recipe for the Apple Pie along with that. The girl serving the samples was informative and friendly.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 11, 2010

Just returned to Chicago after a week long vacation to the Smoky mountains and Ole Smoky Distillery was one of many highlights. I ended-up buying a jar of the White Lighting, its very good and seems as if it will mix well. However, I highly recommend trying the original corn. I am seriously regretting not buying some, this was surprisingly good. Being from the north and knowing little of moonshine I did not know what to expect of unaged whiskey, but i very much enjoyed it. Even if you are not interested in purchasing the product the sights and smells of the distillery are worth a look.

“Ole Smoky Distillery serves up a genuine moonshine experience without any legal worries.”
Reviewed August 7, 2010

My wife and I discovered Ole Smoky Distillery when we were in the Great Smoky Mountains for our honeymoon. The people at Ole Smoky are not just producing delicious, high-quality corn liquor, they are preserving an art that is truly a part of Tennessee's culture and history. The knowledgeable staff was ready to answer any and all question about the moonshine making process.

In addition to the moonshine, the distillery sells a range of t-shirts, glassware, and other moonshine memorabilia such as decorative tin signs and fridge magnets. They also sell various jellies made with the moonshine, as well as moonshine-soaked cherries. Free samples of the moonshine are provided.

The distillery produces two kinds of 'shine, both of which are sold in Mason jars at a solid 100 proof. The first is what they call their "White Lightnin'." It is distilled six times, and is smoother and more suitable for mixing than their second offering, the Unaged Corn Whiskey. I would compare the "White Lightnin'" to a high-quality vodka in that it is a neutral spirit with a flavor that doesn't really assert itself. The corn flavor is there, mind you, it's just not as pronounced as in their other offering. The White Lightnin' is great stuff, and potent, don't get me wrong! I just personally prefer the Unaged Corn Whiskey. It is, I feel, more akin to traditional moonshine in taste and aroma. It is distilled only twice, and has a pleasant sweet corn nose.

If you've never sampled Tennessee moonshine, you're in for a treat! If you're already a fan of the crystal-clear corn concoction, but don't want to worry about running afoul of the law to enjoy it, look no further than the folks at Ole Smoky Distillery in Gatlinburg. Rest assured that when you arrive there will be no shortage of friendly conversation and 100% legal corn liquor to go around!
