There's really nothing remarkable about this cabin. I don't understand the historic value of it. There are cabins like this scattered everywhere across America. I suppose it has some historical interest because everyone around here is named Ogle and the family seems to own the town and all the development in the area. But other than as a commemoration of the birthplace of a family patriarch and matriarch, this little cabin cannot compare to the great historic forts and structures such as those on Mackinac Island that really are about the history.

Some of the reviews for this seem like they may have confused the location. This cabin is in the middle of town across from the Ripley's Aquarium and next to a local artist guild. The story of the cabin and the widowed mother of 7 or so (!!) kids who moved to Gatlinburg is quite amazing. We also enjoyed the local art inside the art guild store.

Normally, we dont enjoy self-guided tours, but what made this one the exception was the well thought out and very informative pamphlet that is available for 0.50. Really made a difference, putting the grounds and facilities in perspective. Great time.

Original cabin built by founders of Gatlinburg. Check out the details of the craftsmanship of the cabin and see what is on the floor.

The cabin is located along a little scenic loop and has a cabin and a barn on the property. It's a beautiful location, and we took some great photos with our son here. Interesting to see a little of what life might have been like in the "old days." Makes us thankful for our nice, clean, air-conditioned and heated modern homes, that's for sure.
