“Some nice places, some junk.”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We spent an afternoon going around the loop of the arts community. I know art is a subjective thing, but some places looked a little shady. Be aware that most of the shops close by 5pm, even in the summer season. It's worth a drive around just to see what they have. We did find some real treasures.

“Make Sure to Visit Alewine Pottery”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We like to visit the Arts and Crafts Community. You will pay more for stuff than you would at Wal-mart or a dept. store, but you have to realize that these people make these items BY hand and they are not a big corporation who can make and sell things in bulk. Make sure to go by Alewine Potter and see the potters in action. They usually have live music and FREE POPCORN on the front porch given out by the sweetest gentleman!!!

“Shopping”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

I really like this community. So much local color, the artists love what they do and itr shows in how you are greeted and treated along the way. Most offer shipping so you can get breakables home safely. ( don't trust the airline) Great pride is taken in the mountain heritage for these artists. Christmas shoppinh here is easy.

“Best selection of area arts and crafts”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Well presented, lovely old cabin in middle of Gaitlinberg. The cabin was originally owned by the first Anglo family to settle in this area and the arts were well represented. These seemed of better value than the standard tourist offerings.

“Quick visit for a special wood piece.”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Looking for a specific wood ornament and they were very accommodating. Places close very early 5/6pm. Owners very personable. Many, many stores are on the 8 mile loop, of all different crafts/specialties.
