“Lots of fun for the kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2009

We would suggest checking Wild Bear Falls out. Definetely fun for a day trip. Our 5 year old and 2 year old both had a blast! Heads up: they do supply towels! Make sure to look up their location because they do not advertise or have brochures available.

“not a very tourist friendly resort, i will never go back or recommend it .”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2009

We wer in a car accident on the way to the water park no one was hurt badly, but we were shaken up especially our 4 year old.
Our room was not ready when promised and my 70 year old mother had to wait on a hard bench or in the car, my grandson did enjoy the water park and it was nice and very clean, but the hospitality was the pits...we conveyed this information to the staff but they didn't have or want time to listen. We frequent Gatlinburg often but we will never come here again. It is very hard
to find with no signs or street markings. There were lots of people complaining about this. Over all the water park was nice, but the accomodations and service VERY LOUSY!!!!!

“Torn between Poor/Average- This aint no Great Wolf Lodge.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2009

Having been to Great Wolf in the Poconos we had an idea of what we were going to get at Great Bear Indoor Water park in Gatlinburg.

Poorly staffed, managed & organized are the top 3 words about the running of the place.

When we pulled in, there was no parking. The 1st woman we asked, directed us to the parking lot which had about 25 spaces. All full. The second employee said my husband should drop us off & walk across the major parkway & catch the trolley back. When he finally got back to the line with us- he told us the only trolley goes all the way back through town before coming back to the resort. It would have taken well over an hour to make the trip back by trolley.

There was a line to get, that stretched outside, at opening time- which was expected, but 90 minutes later- we hadn't moved because an employee was telling people if they had "passes, go right in the doors". Half the line, tired of waiting, said "yeah we have passes" & then cut the line indoors, leaving the rest of us outside in the snow. It was brought to the employees' attention & we were given an apology, but she wasnt willing to make it right which would have set off a small riot.

They overcharged us (one of the kids was under 3), we complained & they gave us refund of that ticket.

When we called, we were told there were life jackets for the kids- there are not so bring your own.

There were only 8 bathroom stalls in the ladies room. Which sounds fine until you realize its a bad idea for a place that holds that many people, more than half of them kids, using them as dressing rooms, nursing stations etc.

The lockers they charge you 10$ for (with a $5 refund for returning the key) were too small for anything other than our shoes & pants. Nothing else. We would have needed 4 lockers (total cost 20$ after refund) to store our things- BUT they didn't have enough lockers.

There weren't enough chairs & tables to leave your stuff that didn't fit in the locker. We had to leave our stuff propped on a fake rock. Of course, it all got wet.

They allow beach balls & the like in the pools. Be prepared to get whacked by a ball or two.

It seems much smaller than Great Wolf. After 2 hours , I was staying just to say we were there longer than the time we waited to get in the door.

The water was "funky" in all the pools. There were so many kids in the hot-tubs we couldn't find places to sit. We had to stand, pressed up against strangers, with kids swimming like it was an Olympic Pool. There were also waaaay to many pre-teens groping each other, unsupervised, under the water in the hot tubs for my comfort. Ick.

The one time I did need a lifeguard, he couldn't see or hear me over the crowd & noise even though he was less than 5 feet from me. A kind guest helped me out when he just walked by me struggling & calling for help.

There were no where near enough staff. Finding someone to answer basic questions was impossible & the kid (maybe 17?) in the "Management Office" hid there, talking on his cell phone & you know what? I dont blame him: the people on line were scary mad.

The one team that seemed completely capable was the towel team. There were always plenty of fresh towels.

Over all the kids loved it but the adults wished we hadnt planned this part of the trip. Next time we will skip it & go to A Great Wolf Lodge where they seem more capable.

We had a great time. The food was over priced but, that can be expected. There was something for everyone, even the 3yr old.
