I have never had a better vacation than when in the Smoky Mountains. For five years' running we made the trip primarily to meet family members for the Thanksgiving holiday. Sadly, we had to miss last year, but will return again in 2010 for sure.
The view of Mt LeConte from our chalet was spectacular during the day and at night when all the lights come on in the valley it seemed magical. The chalet itself was very clean, comfortable, and well-appointed with everything in top working order. Situated far enough from it's neighbors to be private without being secluded, we were very cozy.
The only drawback was the driveway which is very steep and short. Although it did surprise us on our first visit, on subsequent visits we had no difficulties because we have a Jeep Wrangler. My brother did not even want to attempt it with his van, however there is room enough to park alongside the road.
The chalets are fairly removed from Downtown. We always made a point of being back "home" by 4:00 PM so we did not have to drive up the mountain in the dark. As
I would recommend to everyone. It is very easy to get lost, which we did a few times in the dark. There is lots to do Downtown, and where we stayed was just a quick trip to the Park entrance at Sugarlands.
I am very much looking forward to my next visit in November 2010!
