“Clean, big rooms”
Reviewed January 8, 2007

My boyfriend and I stayed here from January 1st -5th for a little relaxation vacation. It was a nice, clean, huge room. The beds were very comfortable. I was impressed by the great water pressure in the showers. The whirlpool/ jacuzzi in the room was really loud when running. If you aren't particularly craving a whirlpool, opt out of getting a room with one, its extra. It was about a 3 minute walk to the parkway. Easy access to the tram/gondola to Ober Gatlinburg, literally across the street. We didn't drive the entire time because everything was in walking distance. The porch was nice, overlooking a stream. Staff was very friendly. Free continental breakfast was good (bagels, Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuits, waffles, cereal, juices, yogurt). The rates were very reasonable. For dinner, I highly recommend The Park Grill in downtown, good food, good portions, decent price, very friendly waitstaff.

  • Disliked — Loud Whirlpool
  • Tips/Secrets — The Park Grill __Great food, decent price, excellent waitstaff!!!

room was very spacious and clean--view over river on balcany was great--could not get a fridge unless you got a suite--hard to find a seat to eat breakfast, but breakfast was nice--could only find one ice machine .--overall it was very nice- and would stay again, except starting oct 15th, 2006 you cannot get a smoking room and i am a smoker, so will look elsewhere the next time we visit gatlinburg.

Stated Oct 1-4. Checked out River Terrace and Edgewater 's rooms before going to Fairfield. Wouldn't stay at either one of those. Old, dated, & stained carpet. Fairfield was clean, nice and comfortable. Also checked out a room at Bearskin Lodge. Room was nice, newer, but corner room was by parking lot and balcony not over river. So we settled on Fairfield. Loved the balcony over the river. we would stay here again. Cherokee grill has very good food.

  • Liked — location, clean, comfortable
  • Disliked — hear upstairs noises
  • Tips/Secrets — Had a good dinner at Cherokee Grill.

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn Downtown Gatlinburg on the first night of our visit. After much research, we chose this motel because of the familiar name, as well as it's great location. We were pleased with our choice.
We booked a king room which had a gas fireplace and two person jacuzzi. The room also had a small balcony that overlooked a pretty stream. We are non-smokers and were very worried about being in a smoking room. (non-smoking unavailable/sold out) Our fears were immediately put to rest. No lingering smoke smells in the room anywhere, and I am very sensitive. Our room was clean, and while far from fancy, did seem more updated than most of the other downtown motels.
The water in the jacuzzi seemed a little off-color the first time we filled it and had some small charcoal-like debris that came from the jets. After draining the water and refilling the tub, this no longer seemed to be a problem. We were a little uneasy about using it though.
Continental breakfast was fine. The waffle-maker was nice, and there was also cereal, oatmeal packets, toast, bagels with cream cheese, various juices, whole fruit, yogurt, microwavable breakfast sandwiches, and of course coffee.
There was also a nice assortment of newspapers: local, USA Today, New York Times, etc. at the front desk.
We were within easy walking distance to restaurants (The Peddler, Smoky Mountain Brewery, Cherokee Grill, Applewood) and the main strip with all of the tourist shops. It is a major plus to not have to worry about fighting evening traffic and finding parking downtown.
Overall, a nice motel for downtown Gatlinburg.
