Title says it all. Great food served in beautiful little Grand Marais on the North Shore. Good beer and wine list as well. Carrot cake to drive for.

My wife and I just returned from spending a week along the coast of Lake Superior in northern MN. Based upon Trip Advisor's # 1 rating, we had lunch and two days later, dinner at The Crooked Spoon Cafe in Grand Marais, MN. For lunch, I had the fresh herring fish sandwich and my wife had a bowl of the onion soup with puff pastry. Both were outstanding, which caused us to return for dinner. My pan roasted Amish chicken, buttermilk mash potatoes and broccolini were excellent. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the potatoes hot and full of flavor. My wife's fresh Norwegian salmon was also perfectly done. Her MN wild rice, lemmon basil aioli and broccolini were so tasty, she could not resist asking the chef for directions to prepare at home.
We finished our dinner by sharing a banana brule', banana rum caramel sauce, vanilla bean ice cream, cashew brittle, sea salt. The dessert alone was worth the visit!
The Crooked Spoon has a nice selection of micro brew beers and wines.
We had dinners at probably a dozen highly rated Trip Advisor restaurants during our two weeks in northern MN and WI. The Crooked Spoon stood out above all the others. Excellent fresh food, properly prepared in a warm and friendly cafe.

We just had soup and dessert, but it was delicious. Everything on the menu sounded good and there was a good beer and wine selection. Prices were a little high.

This is our second year doing a family vacation on the North Shore, and our second visit visiting this restaurant. We had 7 in our party - all with different tastes and expectations - and everyone loved what they ordered. That almost never happens. It's a small place but the food is really good, and this had a great selection of local beer on tap. The French Onion soup was a big hit, and their salads got great reviews from our group. Good service - just a nice place to get a great meal in Grand Marais. I'll be back.

We have eaten here more than we now can count. Service is above and beyond. Know us by name even though we are only here a few times a year. The food is always delicious and well presented.
