We had a wonderful stay in a studio room at East Bay. The entire property is well kept, the staff is very friendly and the location can't be beat.

We booked the three bedroom suite and it was very comfortable and modern. The kitchen was well equipped. I loved the concrete floors and countertops. The staff was so nice and the location was great. It was right on the lake. They provide bikes, the use of a wii (which my children loved), and the fixings for smores. I could have stayed for longer, it was so lovely. The only thing that I was a bit bummed about, was that the only 3 bedroom suites they have are not lake front. The master bedroom and small balcony off the living room had very good lake views, but the kitchen eating area and one bedroom looked at a parking lot and the third bedroom did not have a window. I think you should be aware when booking that this is the case, but we still loved our stay and would love to go back.

Returned to Grand Marias again this summer and spent 2 nights at East Bay Suites.

We spent 2 nights here in a 2 bedroom with my parents.

Negatives first:
$$$! This is an expensive place to stay! At almost $300 per night staying any more than a couple of nights gets very expensive. The room we had #202 was nicely furnished and had a fully furnished kitchen. There is no air conditioning in the room at all, they do have ceiling fans but they did little to cool off the suite. Fortunately for us the nights cooled down and we were able to put a fan at the deck door to bring in some cool air.
The 2nd bedroom seems to be almost an afterthought. It is very dark and very warm. It has it's own bathroom but no windows to the outiside at all. A strange layout.

Positives:
The view! Suite #202 has a wonderful view of the lake and magnificient sunrises. Listening to the waves at night and the seagulls was great.
It also is very well located. Right across the street from Worlds Best Donuts, and walking distance to most everything in town.
Overall, I would recommend the East Bay Suites and will probably be returning again next July for another visit. Maybe they'll give us a break on the room rate since it will be our 3rd visit!

East Bay Suites is a great find in Grand Marais! We had a two bedroom suite. It was very comfortable for a couple and two young adult children. Having two bathrooms was very convenient (each had a shower but no tub). The appliances worked well and most everything you could need for cooking was provided in the kitchen. The TV/DVD player worked well, and written instructions were provided for it. The WiFi worked well. The furniture and carpet were clean and in good shape. We were on the 2nd floor and had two (somewhat narrow) balconies overlooking the lake. The property has a nice lawn and beach. A gas grill is provided in an outdoor common area. The indoor common area is very pretty. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful with knowledge about stores and attractions. As they note when you register, the housekeeping staff doesn't make beds every day, but they do come in to change towels, empty trash, and replenish coffee and soap.

We were easily able to walk to the Co-op, grocery store, the Angry Trout, and Dairy Queen. The waterfront is beautiful and there are lots of little shops to explore.

The only cons I have are very minor. There was no hair dryer in either bathroom. The 2nd bedroom was somewhat dark (no outside windows, but a window to the corridor) and did not have a clock/radio.

The place was quiet. The main noise from other people came when they were out on their balconies. One night it was rainy and stormy and we enjoyed watching and listening to the waves hitting the shore. Since it's in a bay, the waves were not too large. I would like to make it a tradition to go back each summer!

There is nothing better in my mind then falling to sleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore and a fire crackling across the room...the East Bay Suites deliver up both! I have visited Grand Marais on many occasions and have come back time and again to the East Bay Suites. One unique thing about this location is that they offer rooms for every size of group, and they are all fantastic. I've done a solo stay in one of the studio rooms and with larger groups in the two & three bedroom suites. Since the rooms are individually owned (I believe!) there are some fun personal touches in some of the rooms...book collections, movies, games, guest books, etc.

The staff are always helpful and friendly and really help answer any questions about area attractions. Though this location is a bit more pricey then some of the others in the area there is a kitchen in all the units so you can save on dining out costs (and walk to the Co-op right out the back door!). Most importantly, you really cannot beat the location! Located at the end of the main street in town you can literally walk anywhere you might want to go, but being at the end of the road right on the lake means no noisy neighbors to disturb the wave crashing bliss out the window.
