“We expected more.”

Very nice location on lake and town of Grand Marais. The room was clean with pleasant decor, but we were surprised at the number of small repairs needed in the room. Back door dead bolt and screen door didn't work, we relied on the chain lock. Screen on door, heater panels, and drapes needed attention. Chair was worn and frayed. Overall, the room was didn't live up to the costs and pictures online. I hope you like dogs as lots of them stay here too!

We went for a short girls vacation to Grand Marais & stayed at the East Bay Suites. They are very nicely decorated, in earty tones & woodsy theme. The hotel is located at the end of the main street in Grand Marias & on the lakeshore so the balcony faces the lake. Simple check-in, free video rentals, well stocked condo.
It was lots of fun & not very expensive with splitting the costs for this 2 bedroom unit.
Will do this again!

Wanting to get away from the heat, a trip up the north shore of Lake Superior was planned with a stay at East Bay. The property is right on the water - not a view of the water but close enough to lie in bed at night and here the waves kissing the shore. We also were charmed by the moon rising blood red and casting its lovely light on the lake.

The property is very nicely positioned on the Lake but I found the outside to be tired needing some paint and was a bit put off when arriving and seeing it. But, the inside was in top notch condition and there was someone beginning to paint. They also had lovely flowers around the place.

Staff was friendly and professional They also provided information on dining options and other activities. They have yoga on the shore on certain days weather permitting.

The decor is quite charming and modern and not the usual woodsy, country usually found up north. Check out their website: http://www.eastbaysuites.com/

We had a one room suite which included a dandy kitchen area with everything one could need, a comforting soaking tub in the bathroom with separate shower. The amenities were top notch, as well. The living room and bedroom each had a gas fireplace which under most circumstances would have been a nice touch in cooler weather. There was also a balcony overlooking the Lake, of course. Enough room for two but would be a wee bit small for a family with children. However, with the beach for a living area in the summer time, one does not need to do anything but sleep inside. They did provide logs for beach fires and smores which we did not take advantage of this trip. But, it was nice to see and smell the smoke and smores from our balcony.

A very pleasant place, close to town and a nice harbor.

We stayed at East Bay Suites for 3 nights a few weeks ago. The room we stayed in was a one bedroom suite and it was impressive! It had a full kitchen, washer and dryer in the room, huge sitting area, huge bathroom and bedroom. It had all SS appliances and very tasefully deocrated. The room had a balcony which overlooked Lake Superior, which was beautiful!
Another great thing is this hotel allows pets...we brought our black lab and it worked out great! It is also within walking distance to almost everything in town, which is really great. Every morning we went to the Donut House right across the street (fantastic donuts) and then went to the Java Moose for coffee (also fantastic). We ate at 3 really decent restaurants...all a little different: The Angry Trout and the Grilled Whitefish is awesome; The Crooked Spoon and that was incredible; we had the crabcake appetizer, shrimp and pork tenderloin (all extraordinary)! We also ate at Hughies Taco House...which doesnt look like much from the outside , but had these really great Puff Tacos...highly recommend.
We will definitely return to this awesome hotel and very nice town!

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the lake.

My wife and I had a great getaway without the kids recently at the East Bay Suites. We reserved a 1 bedroom unit and it was very nice. The location is great - we walked everywhere in Grand Marais from the hotel. I would definitely stay again and have had nothing but good experiences at the Odyssey resorts we have stayed at (Larsmont and now EBS).

We greatly enjoyed our stay in a studio apartment. The view of the lake was fantastic, and it was incredibly peaceful to hear the waves crashing onto the shore. There was ample space for my husband and I, our luggage, and our road bikes. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer for our clothing after hiking and biking. There was also a small kitchenette in the room, which included a fridge. The floor was concrete (rather than carpeting). I found that wonderful because hotel carpeting generally makes my allergies worse. The decor was modern and comfortable. They also provided Aveda products for guests to use. It's also very close to several restaurants with high quality food.

One thing my husband and I didn't not realize was that the unit in which we stayed was someones condo they were renting. Either I missed the information on the website or it wasn't listed. Also, if you arrive after 7:30, the manager will tape your information to the window of the lobby (key, etc. in an envelope). We weren't aware of this ahead of time, but all the information was included that we needed. Finally, if you arrive late and don't have the chance to go through the main commons area, just know that the hallways of the hotel are older and not representative of the modern rooms. If you arrive prior to 7:30pm, you'll have a chance to go into the main common area, which is very similar to the room in which we stayed.

The location cannot be beat. We had a first floor unit that literarily walked out into the grass in front of the resort and onto the beach. Traveling with a toddler and a pet, this was ideal. Also, a nice place that takes pets! Yay! The co-op was two doors down. You can walk just a couple of blocks away to any restaurant and shop, and the whole location experience was just ideal. The room was clean and new-ish, but for the price, I wish housekeeping would have done more than switch towels. Now for the worst: the toilet was IN the bedroom. I read this from another reviewer before we came and brushed it off, DON'T. Seriously, the toilet is 15 ft. from the bed, separated by a tub and an Ikea sliding curtain - that is SEE THROUGH, sound-through, everything-through. You get it. My husband once had to reschedule a shower, once had to wake me up, and once had to use the toilet in the hall because either I or my toddler was sleeping or using the bedroom. Lastly, we were in the room with the Japanese soaking tub. If you are old, do not get this room. There were stone steps up to a deep hole. If I would have tried to give my 3 year-old a bath in here, I would have toppled in head-frist trying to reach her. Also, dog refuse was left on the grass a couple of times and not promptly cleaned.
