We thought the hotel was great and really enjoyed our stay. However after we had left we received a phone call and was charged $30 for a "phone charger" that was not working in our room. After trying to explain that we did not use the phone and had no clue where the phone was located in the room, they still proceeded to charge us the $30. the employee said the phone was working when we checked in (but there is no proof of that) and it wasn't when we checked out, so we are responsible for it. So if you are going to stay at this hotel, make sure you check over everything closely at check in, otherwise when you are on your way home or visiting some of the sites, you will receive a phone call with charges like this.

We love this place - this was our second stay here. The rooms are clean and spacious. Everything you need is provided... coffee for the coffeemaker, detergent for the washer, CDs for the CD player, etc. It's right on the water... when you look out the window (we were on the 2nd floor) you don't see anything but lake, sky and trees. Yet it's right in town within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. What we liked best (besides the gorgeous setting) was all the space to share family time, and the convenience of being able to prepare some of our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen.

The thing we liked least was that the people upstairs seemed to walk heavily, so we could hear them clomping around. Not the fault of the hotel, but it gives you a little idea about the construction of the building. (We always try to stay on the top floor of any hotel for this reason, but in this case it wasn't available.)

This resort offers excellent rooms, a beautiful setting on Lake Superior in downtown Grand Marais and reasonable rates. The suites have separated rooms and a kitchenette with all one needs to make meals during a vacation. The only strike against this resort is that they charge a high nightly fee to bring a pet. A more pet-friendly charge would make this resort perfect!

This was our fourth time staying at the East Bay Suites and we are never disappointed. The property was full for our stay but you never would have known it. There's nothing better than falling asleep in the light of the fireplace, smelling the wood-smoke from the bonfires on the beach and listening to the waves crashing on the shore. Do not be put off by the murphy bed, it's one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Be sure to pick up some artisan bread from the Whole Foods Co-op next door.

This hotel is great!! Clean, modern, the staff was great. It's right on Lake Superior, with amazing views. It's walking distance to the downtown area. Great shops and restaurants! We stayed in a studio which was perfect for 2. It had a small kitchen, comfy bed and a fireplace. We loved it and they gave us a great military discount!!!!!
