Description: When it comes to our famous pies or our amazing breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus the secret is simple - our first ingredient is always love! We are a family-owned restaurant that has proudly served up gourmet home-cooking and a warm atmosphere on the North Shore of Lake Superior since 1996. Our bakery boasts an extensive selection of berry pies, cream pies, and specialty pies, alongside cookies and cakes and other seasonal desserts! Pies are baked daily entirely from scratch using all of the best available ingredients to ensure a flavor unlike any other. But at The Pie Place Café, we're about more than just pies! Locals and visitors alike enjoy our summer breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. We've been called the best breakfast on the North Shore and it's not hard to see why with our popular Maple Sausage Patties, omelets, and pancakes. Our lunch and supper menus feature favorites like the Black Bear Blueberry Salad and Three Meat Maple Meatloaf - hands down the best meatloaf we've ever tried! Whether you're joining us for one of our namesake pies or an unforgettable Pie Place Café dinner, we look forward to making you feel right at home.

“Go for breakfast”
Reviewed October 3, 2011

We stayed at the hotel so had dinner the first evening and because we got breakfast half price with the room, had breakfast twice. I had walleye and found it to be very good. The evening meals seem to be overpriced, but the breakfast meals were very good. One morning we had the sausage gravy and biscuits and found them very good. I enjoyed the eggs benedict. The restaurant is always very busy, so don't be surprised if there is a wait. We were treated very well by the staff at all three meals we had there. Sorry, we didn't try the pie, but had a scone and it was served with clotted cream and was to die for.

“Over-priced for what you get. Don't go for the burgers”
Reviewed September 21, 2011

I came to town looking for a great burger. The menu made their burger sound fabulous. I ordered the "Burger 101". It came with fries for $8.50. The burger and bun were square, sort of cute but the meat was thin and dry. It was supposed to have lettuce tomato and onion. They forgot the onion and had only a third of a slice of tomato. The lettuce was okay but no mayo. I had a beer with it that I had to pay $6.00 for called Two Hearted. It was from MI. It was flat, no head. This is the Minnesota North Shore, they should carry some Minnesota craft beers, like Brau Brothers. The fries were okay. The service was okay so I tipped the waitress anyway. the bad food and beer wasn't her fault. So I paid $18.00 for some "Okay" fries. Seems a little steep.

Dear Brezcinski, Thank you for your review. Our staff is always happy to customize your burger. The "101" burger does come with onion, tomato & lettuce. However, as most people have different preferences for their burgers, those are served next to the burger on the plate, so you can enjoy the toppings you like. As for the beer selection, our servers are more than happy to advise you on the choice of microbrew from our beverage list we carefully selected for their flavor and practices, to ensure you get the right match for your palate preference. IPAs, like "Two-Hearted," have a very distinct flavor not everyone enjoys. Please don't ever hesitate to ask, and we hope to see you on your next visit to Grand Marais.

“Breakfast at the Pie Place Cafe was Uniquely Delicious!”
Reviewed September 21, 2011

I've always loved Grand Marais, MN for its ability to offer up unique experiences with every visit. I've been there at least 10 times, but had never eaten at the Pie Place Cafe. They did not disappoint. My Sunday morning breakfast, the Northwoods Benedict, was the perfect ending to a fabulous 4-day visit. The maple sausage had amazing flavor and the sauce was not too rich, which can be the case with most Benedict dishes. The staff was overly accommodating to our request to fit 8 people at a 6-person table. Thanks for keeping us together and providing a great book-end to our Mountain Stage/Unplugged trip!

“The place I always recommend for breakfast.”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

Maybe not the most consistent place, but the best chance at a great breakfast in town. I go no where else for breakfast unless I want to drive(and I usually don't). The new location on the harbor made this so. Good move!

“There are better options.”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

We have eaten at The Pie Place several times. Breakfast recently confirmed it will be our last visit. Each time we have been there service was poor to below average and the food inconsistent. The maple sausage was good albeit small portion. The "famous" breakfast potatos were not worth finishing and the pancakes rubbery and bland. The new location by the harbour is certainly an enhancement, but with poor service and food, there are better options in Grand Marais.
