“A regular stop for us”
Reviewed October 16, 2010

Every time we are in Grand Marais we go here and have never been disappointed. The views are wonderful, food well prepared, service great.

We had both fried and baked Herring, which is a mild fish....but was tasty in their hands. Highly recommend.

We love, love, love Angry Trout. It is one of the highlights to our many trips to Grand Marais. We have never had a bad experience with the food or service.

“Great location, good food, terrible service when busy”
Reviewed September 7, 2010

We enjoyed the Angry Trout a year ago and were eager to return this year. We had an enjoyable lunch outside one day, but our dinner the following day was ruined by the poor service. We knew about the 40 minute wait for a table; that wasn't a problem. What was unforgivable was the way we were rushed to eat our meal and make room for the next party as soon as we were seated. I commented to our unfriendly waitress that we had the feeling (when she tried to clear away plates before we were finished and then brought the check along with desert) that she was in a hurry to get us out. She replied, "Well, that's my job." I relayed this exchange to the hostess on our way out and she jumped to the defense of the waitress, helpfully explaining that they try to turn the tables every 40 - 60 minutes. The managers of this restaurant have become greedy. They would provide a better experience for diners and a less stressful environment for their staff if they took reservations and spaced them at reasonable intervals. We had an equally delicious dining experience and excellent service elsewhere in Grand Marais.

“Great lunch - highly recommend”
Reviewed August 17, 2010

Great lunch, right on the harbor, good beer on tap, friendly/prompt service.

Order the smoked herring and trout appetizer with wild blueberries, cheese, and cranberry horseradish dipping sauce.

“Not a bad place but there are others”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

July-2010. A family of five, youngest at 11, oldest 17: As noted in previous entries the wait was long (1 hour) but the town offers a lot to see during this down time. we went late- around 8PM. We opted to sit outside which was a mistake. Misquotes and darkness made us rush through but that was not the restaurant's fault. We stuck with the feature fish- Herring which we never had. The food was good but I will say this was not worth the wait. I wouldnt reject the opportunity but I think there are other places that offer the same fare for the same $$. Nice place, good food, good server but not a knock-me-out or "must do".
