Not quite Deco, not quite Ojibway, not quite Superior and definitely not quite Minnesotan, what we have here is a glimpse of a past which almost never was. You may not get a five star meal but our food and service was good and the experience is extraordinary. Read the history, stroll the grounds and let your imagination do the rest. If you are anywhere on the North Shore, make a point of stopping by.

Such a cool vibe when pulling into Naniboujou! Stopped in for breakfast and we were greeted by, as I found out later, the owner of the lodge. My family ate breakfast and said the French Toast is a must! Sat by the fireplace and looked around in awe at the beautiful ceiling. Fun to learn about the history.. shopped in the gift shop and chatted with a couple repeat vistiors and learned of why they like coming back year after year. The owners sound like a wonderful family!!

Stopped for dinner on the way to Grand Portage. The ceiling and fireplace were very neat to see. We were dressed very casually and had a 4 & 8 year old with us...felt welcome even with the white table clothes. The food was more reasonably priced that I would have guessed and there was a good variety on the menu. They provided a children's menu with a few unique things too...like grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on wild rice bread.

Driving along the north shore we decided to pull in and check it out not expecting much from their sign, but wow were we surprised. This building is amazing, words and pictures can not describe it, must see for yourself; we almsot forgot that we were there to eat and not view a historic land mark. The service was excellant, my steak was one of the best I've ever had; however the accompanients were little to be desired, my potato was over cooked and had no flavour and did not come with anything to give it flavour other than butter and s&p on the table, hoping management reads this and makes adjustment, otherwise everything was amazing! Even something as simple as the potato and bacon soup was amazing!!! AMAZING PLACE!!

Went here for brunch on a recent trip to the north shore. The prices for brunch were a bit steep ($17/person), however, they do have a good variety of foods, and even some items you wouldn't find on a normal brunch menu (like cedar-smoke Salmon). The atmosphere is really nice, it's very open and friendly. The waitstaff were also very friendly, you could tell they really cared, and that they had a lot of regulars because our hostess was chatting people up and hugging them as they came in the door. Only complaint is that the restaurant doesn't make use of it's location (it's right on lake superior, but you can't see that lake in the restaurant).
