I'm not a coffee snob but I guess I expect more out of a local coffee shop. I had a latte that was lukewarm at best. But, the mix was right and I tend to like my latte extra hot so I could overlook that. What was disappointing was the service. I went in on a Thursday afternoon to get a latte and ice cream cone for my husband while he waited in the car. There were maybe 2 people there using internet. And, from what I could guess, four employees (or two employees and their friends standing in the way). My order took forever, not because I was waiting to order but because the staff was too busy gabbing out who would be cleaning off tables and whatnot and how many days the other person had been doing whatnot. If they had been multi-tasking and making my coffee, no problem. But they weren't. Then, I get my cone and finally my coffee. Only, they don't put a lid or warmer on it. The lids and warmers are across the restaurant. So, I'm attempting to do the one hand balance thing across the restaurant with a wallet, ice cream and coffee. Then, I'm trying to get the cozy on while not dropping my ice cream cone. Total disaster. Even with two people, literally standing 2 inches from me, not a single person offered to help. Sure, you could think, maybe they didn't notice. But no, they were staring at me. I sort of felt like a zoo animal. I eventually got it figured out and on the way out I hear one of them complaining about the owner busting them texting on their phone. It appears the owner strives for quality customer service but was MIA during this encounter. That's disappointing to hear because the shop is cute and lots of folks told me to visit here. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Grand Marais but I'll go there in the am in hopes of a better customer service experience.
