This is truly one of my favorite places on earth. I just love the BWCA. Words can't describe the feelings I get from being here. Try it, you won't be sorry.
Fall, spring, summer, just about anytime is great

We just spent three nights at the Gunflint Lodge. This was a great place to take our family with lots to do and very helpful and pleasant staff. They told us we could come early and use the facilities, and stay after check-out (just not in the room) if we still wanted to do activities around their lodge. The cabin was clean and had a nice view of Gunflint lake. The lodge is well staffed...every day there are a few younger men around by the lake to assist with boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. All were friendly. The restaurant had excellent food. One of the things our kids really enjoyed were all the activities the lodge arranges such as candle-making, hikes, boat-rides, and more. With some of these events the lodge fed them and we just picked them up in an hour or two, depending on the length of the event. All our kids really enjoyed how friendly the lady was who entertained and educated the kids during the hikes and other events. The front desk also was helpful in rearranging times we had scheduled for various events like horseback riding and zip-lining. When it was too windy to canoe/fish on Gunflint lake, they offered to bring canoes to a smaller lake for us. Just couldn't have had a better stay!!! Thanks!

We took advantage of a Groupon last summer and stayed in one of the Canoe Cabins. We're not the hardcore camping family so this was a nice way to get the experience with a screened in porch! Turns out we didn't need the screen, they had some cold nights and there were hardly any bugs. We had a blast with the canoes, kayaks, and fishing boats. The food was excellent and the activities were a blast. The only downside to the trip is the drive out, you're cell phone starts chirping at Grand Marais with all the missed messages, kind of a harsh jolt of reality. Can't say I missed that while we were there. It's nice to get cut off for a few days! The staff is very helpful and the naturalist really know there stuff. The only suggestion I would make is for a better fishing map, or give the boat staff a few "tips" on where to send someone. It's a big lake and not easy to figure out without a little local knowledge. Headed back with another family in a couple weeks, can't wait!

My wife & I made our 2nd couple's get-away to Gunflint Lodge this week. As was our experience on our last visit, it was an amazing 3 day retreat! Bruce set us up in a beautiful "romantic cabin" on the lake shore. We woke to the loons calling, spent half a day kayaking & exploring the various lakes & inlets, spent another half day hiking to the beautiful views of Gunflint Lake from the bluffs, watched the sunsets over the lake, swam, relaxed & enjoyed the wonderful food & hospitality! We have traveled to many 5 star resorts around the world & Gunflint is still one of our favorite spots to visit. The staff are outstanding, friendly & helpful. Bruce's wife Sue was charming, chatting with us on the patio one evening. We loved our trip there & will be bringing the kids back soon to introduce them to the beauty of Gunflint! Thanks Bruce & Sue!

My wife and i went to Gunflint as a 10 year anniversary trip. We had a blast! Nice cottage for 2, nice lodge with wonderful home cooked meals. Great activities, horse riding, zip-lining, hiking, canoes, boats, wildlife, waterfalls, sunsets, sunrises, naturalist activities, and great staff. Don't let a fear of heights keep you from the zip-lines. i'm scared of heights and i loved it. so glad i didn't chicken out. My only suggestion is take a flying insect spray for your room. you will want to spray before bed time just incase any skeeters got in during day. This isn't a resort owned by someone who checks in with managers once a week. I saw and/or talked to either Bruce or Sue (the owners) every single day we were there. They are very active in day to day management and want to insure your stay is great. i went to the front desk because my key wouldn't pull out of the deadbolt and Bruce himself went with me back to cottage with WD-40 and fixed it himself. I would gladly go back!

Room Tip: If your used to staying in 5 star hotels, keep in mind these are cottages in the north woods...

I had never been to the Gunflint trail, though I had been to Grand Marias. The Gunflint Lodge was something special, though. The accomondations were excellent down to the little touches of providing charcoal for the grill outside our door, to preparing the fire in the fireplace for nighttime enjoyment. At the lodge, there is complmentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot cider along with yummy fresh baked cookies. We indulged each morning out on the beautiful patio overlooking the beach, the marina and the lake. It was the perfect place to decide upon our day's activities. All the staff were extremely helpful, the housekeepers (we needed extra fire starters), the waitresses (made suggestions for canoe trips) and the marina staff (showed us all we needed to know to use the canoe and the motor boat). We never felt rushed and were truly able to relax and smile.

Room Tip: We were in cablin 24 which was perfect for us. Outside the cablin were adarondack chairs where we s...

Peaceful retreat. Always kind, and pleasant staff. Our dogs love it, and it's a great family getaway and a great place to get away from electronics and relax with nature. The owners are around and really care about the guests. It feels like family and everyone remembers you every time you stay. Always packages and fun !
