“Sacred Monument”

From Wahweap marina, boat trips can be taken to visit Rainbow Bridge, the world's largest known natural arch rock formation and a sacred Navaho place, but this really needs to be booked well in advance and may be inaccessible due to low water in a drought. Our guides were Navaho girls and they made the whole trip fascinating pointing out rock formations and describing how Lake Powell was formed. Plenty of drink is available on board as the wind and heat can be de-hydrating, and there's a choice for sitting inside or going up-top.

“Rainbow Bridge - a great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2006

I have been to Rainbow Bridge three times. What an experience. The first time we were on a 36 foot houseboat. The canyon walls are so high that you have to put your head all the way back to see the tops. And what beautiful colors of the canyon wall and textures. Currently, the hike from where you tie up your boat is about 1 1/4 mile one way. It is best to try and get there early morning. Plus before the tour boat gets there. Check there time schedule. The hike can be done, very slowly. Take water and a snack. We were lucky each time and only a handful of people there so it was very quite. Birds singing through the canyon and lots of lizards to watch. A Ranger was there giving a talk about the bridge the last time were were there. The ages of my group were 7 years to 70 years old. We all did the hike, but took our time. We were there in June 1999, June 2002, and June 2004.
