The tour includes a brief native American dance to start the tour, followed by transportation to the canyon's. We went on the photo tour which is great if you are taking picture's. The photo tour provides more time in the canyon. Ride to the canyon can be a bit rough but it comes with the territory. Rob was our guide who does a fabulous job. Thanks Rob!! He was Very patient to help us with our camera's on multiple occasions, and show us how to take the best photo's. Make sure with the fine sand you are able to protect your camera. Rob will tell you that as well. Got several good shots while in the canyon so keep shooting as some will not come out perfect as well. Time flew by so I can only image how quickly it would go by if you were on the shorter tour. Great addition to our Southwest vacation.

I have to agree with Dan1. The canyon is an amazing site to see. Our guide was informative and gave us great advice on camera settings, light and angles. She even entertained us on her pipe before heading back. That's the good part.
However, it did feel like we were on a tour in a third world country. Although, it was somewhat adventurous it did not feel very safe traveling in an open pickup at highway speeds, strapped in two to each seatbelt. Driving at speed necessary to get through deep sand in the desert didn't feel very safe either, especially with a full load of passengers making the pickup top heavy.
I'm hoping there is not a serious crash before the safety standards are changed.

I will start with the positives, the Antelope canyon is a must see, it is amazing. yes it is crowded and the tour does feel a bit hurried but it is worth it. our guide was very informative and showed locations and positions for great photographs.
Now the negatives:
when we arrived at the canyon and got off the "pick-up truck" we immediately noticed smoke and a strong smell of burning coming from the rear left wheel. our guide advised that it was leaking transmission fluid. after our tour of the canyon and on our return to the truck, we asked if everything was sorted and our guide advised that everything was ok.
our guide then drove through the desert trail and out onto the public road. after a couple of miles we approached a steep hill and slowed down (luckily) when we heard a loud bang and the truck dropped on 1 side and we came to a stop.
we immediately got out of the truck and saw that the rear left wheel had come off and bounced through the windscreen of an oncoming car and ended up a few hundred yards down the road.
the passenger of the oncoming car suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
the lack of caring and understanding of the seriousness of the situation which was displayed by the staff was remarkable to say the least and has contributed to the souring of our experience of the Antelope Canyon.
as far as i am concerned, there are serious questions to be raised regarding health & safety and the ONLY reason there was nobody seriously injured in our group was down to the fact that we were travelling uphill at a slow speed when the wheel came off.
think twice before choosing this company.

We booked the 8:30 am tour of Upper Antelope Canyon with Chief Tsosie's company the night before. I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to get a tour at the last minute, but not only did we get a reservation, they picked us up at our hotel! Our guide was Irene; she is awesome! She was a no nonsense guide, keeping us moving and helping everyone get wonderful pictures that look like professionals took them! Irene told us the history of the canyon and also pointed out the perfect spots from which to take the pictures. She was funny too, telling jokes and stories along the way.

A couple of suggestions:

Take a very early tour; there are a lot fewer people. I had read reviews about crowds and was a little leery, but it wasn't bad at that time of the day. However, as we left, we saw tons more people arriving. Light was good and pictures were great.

Be on time. A few people were not waiting for their pick up and were left behind. The guide came back to get them, but it slowed the entire group down.

Wear a jacket for the ride in and out of the canyon...it's windy! And wear comfortable shoes.

All in all, this was a great experience. Don't miss it!

My wife and I just returned from a trip through the Southwest. I am a photographer and had put Antelope Slot Canyon on my short-list of must see sights. After some research (there are a lot of companies that will take you through the canyon) I booked through Chief Tsosie. It was one of the best decisions of the entire trip. We checked in the day before and they had our reservation on file. We arrived early for the 10:30 am tour and watched the "hoop-dancer" who was great. At 10:30 Rob loaded us into the back of the truck and we were off!

Our guide, Rob, was outstanding. We had booked the photographic tour since it gave us more time in the Canyon. Rob was great at getting us into the right position at the right time. I have pictures of light streaming into the canyon, sand falls, beautiful canyon walls, etc. He also helped my wife set up her pocket camera and she got some fabulous pictures. There were several other tours in the canyon at the same time and Rob was great at working us around the other groups. Sometimes this meant that we had to double back, sometimes we waited, sometimes we moved really fast. Whatever it took, Rob knew when and where to be to get the right picture. If you going to visit Upper Antelope Canyon and you are a serious photographer and are looking for some great pictures, you can't do better than Chief Tsosie and ask for Rob.
