This could easily be a novella. There is so much to say about this Inn and the people who make it so, so special.

1. The home itself was beautiful and I want to live there.
2. Susan is the hostess with the mostest. I found her to be charming, energetic and most helpful.
3. The dogs (and cat dog) are well trained, lovable and no one has any reason to complain about them - ever. There is no evidence of the animals in that house or on the grounds. No 'scat', fur or smell. If you chose to ignore them (as some guests did), they will happily ignore you as well. We, however, couldn't get enough of them and showered them with attention.
4. The dinners were incredible. Our girls even started eating things they normally would not eat just because they loved the chefs.
5. Coffee and breakfast muffins were a nice extra for a quick breakfast. There is an in-room coffee maker and mini fridge if you want to have something different or specific for breakfast, but the muffins were really good!
6. Chef Ryan, Chef Chris and up-and-coming Sous chef Matt were all amazingly talented, gracious and just plain fun to be with.

We miss all our new friends at the Great Bear Inn.

Minutes from Glacier, stunning view, wonderful hospitality, clean and amazingly beautiful accommodations, delicious fare - so why are you still looking for a place to stay??

Room Tip: Rooms downstairs are incredibly large (comfy for 4!), private and include a walkout patio. I'm s...

My husband and I had looked forward to and planned for this trip for years, and we were not disappointed. Our stay at The Great Bear was amazing. The decor is rustic and stylish. The view from the huge deck is beautiful and secluded. Susan, the owner, was helpful and very entertaining. What a personallity! She made sure we knew how to stay safe from bears in the park and loaned us bear spray for the duration of our stay. She referred us to a wonderful pilot for a helecopter tour of the park, and could give directions to anywhere we wanted to go with recomendations of what to look for when we got there.
Our delux room was large, comfortable, clean and quiet. It had all the extras like TV, hairdryer, minifrig, and toiletries, even mouthwash.
By far the best part was the wonderful food prepared by Susan's son Chef Ryan and Chef Chris. Halfway through the day, while walking the beautiful trails and taking in the amazing scenery, we would find ourselves asking, "What do you think we are having for dinner tonight?" The anticipation of those wondereful meals extended the excitement of the day until the final bite of dessert. On the plane ride home we were able to recall every course of every meal for seven days, memorable! While some quest enjoyed wine before dinner, we appreciated having specialty soft drinks available. The conversation was easy and fun. We met some wonderful and interesting people. Susan, her sister Mary , Ryan and Chris all have a special place in our heart for making our dream trip of a lifetime perfect.

My wife and I stayed at the Great Bear Inn for 4 nights during our recent trip to Glacier National Park. We found the Great Bear Inn on the internet and after reading all the reviews at Trip Advisor we felt comfortable enough to make a reservation. We stayed in one of the first floor/terrace level rooms. The large room/suite was quiet and private with an incredibly comfortable Tempur-Pedic king size bed and a gas fireplace. The Inn is situated in a very convenient location for visiting the west side of Glacier National Park, the Going-to-the-Sun Road and the North Fork Area. It's close to Kalispell and Whitefish. We left the Inn early each morning for a full day of hiking and sightseeing, but we made sure we returned in plenty of time for the evening festivities at the Inn. Each night at 7PM, we gathered in the great room and kitchen area for beer (great selection of microbrews- no Bud Light here) and wine, delicious home made appetizers and the camaraderie of the fellow guests. Dinner is served at 8PM and we had 4 fabulous meals during our stay. Chef Ryan along with visiting chef Chris created the most amazing 4 course meals each night. Susan, the owner, and her sister Mary contributed to the family atmosphere. By the second night, we knew that we will be returning next year. In summary...great location, great rooms, amazing food, friendly staff that seemed like family who fostered fellowship among all the guests.

My wife and I stayed here in late April for a week and had one of the best vacation experiences that we have ever had. The only problem is that you may not want to leave and see the park because the Inn is such a wonderful place and Susan & Ryan are such great people! This is the first review (of any sort) we've ever written but we felt we owed it to everyone else who wants to visit Glacier to tell them about this place. The Inn fits perfectly in Montana (and even includes a large stuffed bear). We were looking to get the "western inn" feel and the Great Bear Inn definitely delivered. The grand suite we stayed in was amazing; it was large, clean, and had plenty of natural woods and stone, etc. The Inn also has some great common areas including a deck, game room, living room area, and dining room. We loved the high ceilings and big windows in the great room and the view from the deck was beautiful. Unfortunatley, we were probably the worst pool players that ever used the game room! Important Note: The Inn had 3 #1's in all of our fifteen years of vacation travels. The first #1 was the best shower I have been in. Not a huge deal but I hate wimpy showers after a long day of doing outdoor activities. The second #1 was the food. The quality of the food totally caught us off guard. I am generally not a big food person but I must admit that Ryan knows his stuff. My wife, who very much is a "food person" was in heaven at every dinner. I had done most of the trip planning and after the first night, she thought I had kept the dining experience a secret from her so that she would be suprised. Unfortunately I couldn't take the credit because I just didn't know. Ryan prepared each 4-course, gourmet meal with excellent creativity, preparation, and presentation. My wife described it not as a meal but as a wonderful culinary experience. We went there for the location - and loved it, and for some quiet time to rest and relax - which we did, but we also left feeling like we had been spoiled at a 5-star restaurant every evening. The wine hour before dinner is a great touch as well. Don't forget to ask Chef Ryan to sit at the chef's table during dinner (he likes it when people ask!). The only other food note is that they really didn't do a breakfast (when we stayed there) so you will need to plan ahead and pick up a few things at the grocery store. The third #1 was the hospitality of the owner Susan. What a wonderful person. She was extremely helpful in recommending activites (and bear spray) and we spent quite a bit of time just relaxing and talking with her. My wife and I generally are not big social people but we couldn't help but end up in great conversations with Susan. She made us feel welcome and at home in the first five minutes we were there. One note: They do have several dogs - which we loved. If you're not an animal lover then maybe other places would be a better option. The biggest problem we had was preventing my wife from kidnapping one of them! Overall, we had a great experience in Montana, in Glacier National Park and suprisingly one of the main reasons was because we stayed at the Great Bear Inn. It is not for the camping crowd ($$) but if you like comfort and relaxation, awesome original food, and meeting friendly, helpful people, then the Great Bear Inn is a littel bit of heaven on earth. My wife said it best after we left: "It felt like staying with old friends...just friends you didn't know you had!"

We stayed at the Great Bear Inn for one night during our 2 week road trip around the national parks and it was certainly one of the highlights of our entire trip. Susan is the ideal host... Friendly, fun, and accommodating. Ryan and Chris were both talented chefs and great company. We were the only guests at the inn (as we came before the busy summer season) and they were so gratious about making us different meals (as I don't eat red meat and my husband does not eat seafood).

Our evening began with a champagne toast... and ended with a game of pool in the lower level game room. Our room was enormous, clean, and had a beautiful private deck overlooking the mountains. We also loved all of the friendly resident dogs... If you like big dogs you will feel right at home! (Plus, they keep the bears away.)

I can't imagine finding a better place to stay during your upcoming trip to Glacier. Don't miss your chance to stay at the GREAT Bear Inn. Please say hi to Susan for us!
