“If Your Visiting Glacier, THIS is the place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2011

My wife and I stayed here in late April for a week and had one of the best vacation experiences that we have ever had. The only problem is that you may not want to leave and see the park because the Inn is such a wonderful place and Susan & Ryan are such great people! This is the first review (of any sort) we've ever written but we felt we owed it to everyone else who wants to visit Glacier to tell them about this place. The Inn fits perfectly in Montana (and even includes a large stuffed bear). We were looking to get the "western inn" feel and the Great Bear Inn definitely delivered. The grand suite we stayed in was amazing; it was large, clean, and had plenty of natural woods and stone, etc. The Inn also has some great common areas including a deck, game room, living room area, and dining room. We loved the high ceilings and big windows in the great room and the view from the deck was beautiful. Unfortunatley, we were probably the worst pool players that ever used the game room! Important Note: The Inn had 3 #1's in all of our fifteen years of vacation travels. The first #1 was the best shower I have been in. Not a huge deal but I hate wimpy showers after a long day of doing outdoor activities. The second #1 was the food. The quality of the food totally caught us off guard. I am generally not a big food person but I must admit that Ryan knows his stuff. My wife, who very much is a "food person" was in heaven at every dinner. I had done most of the trip planning and after the first night, she thought I had kept the dining experience a secret from her so that she would be suprised. Unfortunately I couldn't take the credit because I just didn't know. Ryan prepared each 4-course, gourmet meal with excellent creativity, preparation, and presentation. My wife described it not as a meal but as a wonderful culinary experience. We went there for the location - and loved it, and for some quiet time to rest and relax - which we did, but we also left feeling like we had been spoiled at a 5-star restaurant every evening. The wine hour before dinner is a great touch as well. Don't forget to ask Chef Ryan to sit at the chef's table during dinner (he likes it when people ask!). The only other food note is that they really didn't do a breakfast (when we stayed there) so you will need to plan ahead and pick up a few things at the grocery store. The third #1 was the hospitality of the owner Susan. What a wonderful person. She was extremely helpful in recommending activites (and bear spray) and we spent quite a bit of time just relaxing and talking with her. My wife and I generally are not big social people but we couldn't help but end up in great conversations with Susan. She made us feel welcome and at home in the first five minutes we were there. One note: They do have several dogs - which we loved. If you're not an animal lover then maybe other places would be a better option. The biggest problem we had was preventing my wife from kidnapping one of them! Overall, we had a great experience in Montana, in Glacier National Park and suprisingly one of the main reasons was because we stayed at the Great Bear Inn. It is not for the camping crowd ($$) but if you like comfort and relaxation, awesome original food, and meeting friendly, helpful people, then the Great Bear Inn is a littel bit of heaven on earth. My wife said it best after we left: "It felt like staying with old friends...just friends you didn't know you had!"

We stayed at the Great Bear Inn for one night during our 2 week road trip around the national parks and it was certainly one of the highlights of our entire trip. Susan is the ideal host... Friendly, fun, and accommodating. Ryan and Chris were both talented chefs and great company. We were the only guests at the inn (as we came before the busy summer season) and they were so gratious about making us different meals (as I don't eat red meat and my husband does not eat seafood).

Our evening began with a champagne toast... and ended with a game of pool in the lower level game room. Our room was enormous, clean, and had a beautiful private deck overlooking the mountains. We also loved all of the friendly resident dogs... If you like big dogs you will feel right at home! (Plus, they keep the bears away.)

I can't imagine finding a better place to stay during your upcoming trip to Glacier. Don't miss your chance to stay at the GREAT Bear Inn. Please say hi to Susan for us!

Susan, Son, and Staff have made their Inn a not to be missed accommodation for West Glacier. This Inn has it all... personality, food, view... large, spacious, unique and wonderfully decorated, spacious rooms. Whether you choose to meet and greet people from around the globe or to remain in a more singular state, we wish we had spent many more nights here. Don't Miss This Inn !!!

My wife and I stumbled upon the Great Bear Inn accidentally while looking for lodging for our trip to Glacier National Park. We considered a great many places and landed here, much to our delight. Having now visited the area and having stopped by a number of the other lodging opportunities in and around the park, we are absolutely sure that we made the best choice possible in choosing the Great Bear Inn.

The Great Bear Inn is an amazing place to stay. The Inn (not bed and breakfast! ;) ) is very cozy, very inviting, and very relaxing. The Great Bear suites are absolutely amazing, and huge! The hospitality that Suzie and Ryan gave us was second to none. And, the food was, plainly put, amazing. Every night we were served a different, professionally prepared, offering ranging from filet Mignon to Cornish game hen, complete with appetizers, an opening course, and dessert.

All in all, our experience here was fantastic. Who could complain about great rooms, great food, and great company within 5 minutes of the West entrance to one of the most beautiful national parks in the United States?

What a great find. Somehow I came across the Great Bear Inn while planning a trip to Glacier National Park this summer since it was not listed in any of the usual tour books. It is undoubtedly the finest place in the area to stay. From the whole reservation process to our stay, the personal attention from the owner Janie was unlike any where else. The small intimate lodge was a dream--beautiful, huge rooms and gorgeous common areas. The beds were as nice and fancy as any five star hotel-and this was in the middle of the wilderness. The owner's sons were the chefs and served first class gourmet meals. But the most important thing was the fabulous hospitality that the entire staff treated us with. I can't wait to go again!

The Great Bear Inn is a great place to stay when visiting Glacier National Park. Our room was so clean and comfortable and we felt at home during our stay. We enjoyed the gourmet dinner and socializing with the owner and other guests. Dinner was served fairly late for our kid's bedtime, but allowed us to spend a full day in the park. Our kids loved the game room and the dogs. The dogs were very large, but calm and sweet. Breakfast was light and most contained carbs and sugar. Plain toast, bagel or croissant would have been nice addition. We loved the setting, the staff and the overall experience.

We recommend the Great Bear Inn.

We were looking for a place to stay for a spur of the moment drive to West Glacier. We considered ourselves extremely blessed to land a night at this fantastic Inn that is a true complement to the Glacier Nat'l Park area. It was the perfect fit for our needs and made our quick visit exactly what we wanted. This is simply a beautiful sophisticated mountain Inn with a passionate and enthusiastic owner that provides the most convenience but non-commercial experience outside of the Glacier Nat'l Park area. We certainly look forward to our next visit where we can stay longer to enjoy all the beauty of Glacier Nat'l Park.
