Village Inn At Apgar

We had planned to spend two nights at the Village Inn at Apgar while touring Glacier National Park but because Going to the Sun was still closed we had to change the second night to a motel on the eastern side of the park. When we go to the Village Inn we were really enchanted with the room which was comfortable and clean AND the location of the Inn right on Lake McDonald! We sat on the big comfortable chairs on the porch outside of the room and enjoyed relaxing opposite the view of the water, the deer on the grassy edges and the flights of evening birds. Then at dawn we took pictures of the lake. We were really sorry to have to leave after only one night.

We spent 2 nites in this charming motel, our room was on the second floor, they have a huge shared balcony, with 2 comfortable log adirondack chairs outside of each room, you are directly on lake mcdonald, with an unobstructed beautiful view all the way down the lake to the snow capped mountains, better view & less congestion than lake mcdonald lodge. in the evenings most of the guests here bring out games, beverage of choice, including some excellent microbrews, & chat w/other guests & watch the sunset...lovely experience, & great way to start glacier national park trip, I think the west side of the park up to Logans Pass is more scenic than the east side, & I've seen both. Also, the red bus jammer tour is a great way to be driven along the going to the sun road & be able to enjoy the incredible views without dealing w/ driving on this narrow road w/steep drop offs. If u love national parks, you have GOT to visit Glacier!

Room Tip: second floor is the best!

The inn is a little tired, and dated, but that was part of the charm. Our room was clean, warm, and the pillows very comfortable. I thought the price was very reasonable, we slept 6 in the 2-room w/ sleeper sofa for $185. The key is the location. From our balcony we could see lovely Lake McDonald and the mountains. Eddie's restaurant is a two-minute walk, as well as canoe rental, a visitor center, and a small grocery store. The housekeeping and check-in staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in a unit that had 2 double beds and a kitchen. This is an older property, but it is extremely well-maintained. It is very clean and the appliances and bathroom fixtures looked brand new. We had a unit on the ground floor, which was about 12 feet from the water's edge and had spectacular mountain views. The lake (Lake MacDonald) is quite cold, but pristine and beautiful. It is a place to unplug and relax fully - no TV or internet. There is a restaurant 1 short block away and you can also walk a very short distance to rent a motor boat, canoe or kayak. There are enough things to do in the area to keep you entertained, or you can just read a book on the deck and soak up the incredible view.

Room Tip: Our kids liked to go out the front door with their fishing rods or some swimsuits for wading or swim...

Not much to add to other reviews. Good place to stay on West side of park. Just around the corner from the Visitor's Center. Nice view of the lake, but not that tranquil with all of the other guests.

Just as other reviewers have said, the view is absolutely perfect. I love my morning quiet time sitting in front of the lake with my coffee. The bed is narrow. My husband missed his wi-fi but I'm okay with it. Interior is dated, but it's nice to have a bedroom (2nd floor) to separate our kids.

They have brewed coffee in a coffee maker in the check-in office. But when we asked for a cup to get the coffee, we were told that they didn't have any. No effort even trying to get a paper one from the cleaning staff. Why bother having coffee there then...

We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, and took your time to leave us this feedback. The coffee situation, however, is unacceptable. I am going to make sure that our management is notified, and that it does not happen again. We are very sorry to have dropped the ball on this one. We hope that you will still consider staying with us again, only, coffee cups included this time.

Actually, we couldn't even get a cell phone signal here, but we didn't care. As everyone else has said, the view is absolutely fabulous. We even enjoyed a double rainbow one evening. I thought the rooms where actually quite nice, and fit well within the atmosphere of the park. I would find it disconcerting to stay in a 5 star hotel when the real beauty is just outside your door.

A helpful hint: Tourists spend $60 on bear spray and then leave it behind because they can't or don't want to take it home. The cleaning staff collects it, and are happy to loan you a can when you're going on a hike. Just ask!
