“Sleep in Your Socks”

What was supposed to be a quaint little place was simply dirty, uncomfortable, and loud. The buildings were built so cheaply that we could hear people in neighboring rooms talk about what they wanted for dinner. And it wasn't humble-but-clean. The shower had extreme mildew in it and the sink was filled with some kind of weird black soot. We were so happy that we stayed only one night! AND the restaurant's food was gross and overpriced.

Our family of four stayed in Cabin # 32 for 4 nights. The cabin was nice, clean, and comfortable. The shower stall was a bit tight for my 6'3" 300lb husband but the water was hot and there was plenty of it. I highly reccomend cabin # 32 because it is at the end of the row so you only have 'neighbors' on one side of you. There is a nice path down to the Flathead River right behind the cabin and the shared picnic area is very nice with an outstanding view. This location is only about 1 or 2 miles from the Glacier National Park entrance. The cabin could be improved by adding a couple coat hooks to hang items on or a shelf or two, and a couple more electrical outlets - bring power strips- but other than that it was very nice. The kitchen area met our needs- full size fridge, oven and sink. We saved a bunch of money cooking breakfast and dinner at the cabin and packing sandwhiches in a cooler for lunch. (A family of four plan on a minimum of $45 for any meal eaten at a restaurant and that's with only drinking free water.) The cabins are a 1/4 mile or so away from the motel and main road. We were very happy about that. It was pretty busy by the motel and restaurant area and we are not "crowd" people. Overall we were very pleased with West Glacier Motel's cabin # 32 and would book it again if we would ever return.

Stayed here while on the west side of Glacier and thought it was a good value for the location. No frills,no TV, no telephone a basic room but clean. If you are looking for full service accommodations this may not be the place for you. Our room was in the back section of the property which had picnic tables overlooking a river. A great spot to watch the sun set.

We spent 5 nights in Cabin 32 and 2 nights in Cabin 31 and I would highly recommend any of the cabines for any length of stay. Our hosts live on site and they are very friendly and gave us lots of recommendations about the park. The cabines are about a third of a mile from the main motel in an inviting area where there is a fire pit with free firewood for nightly bonfires and a grill. The cabins had queen beds, full size fridges and stoves for cooking and even a closet to hand clothes. They are pine wood and are quiet. We walked down the oath right behind the cabins and caught a few fish on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and even saw a black bear cub across the river (a safe distance away) and a bald eagle flying overhead. There is a stor, restaurant, gas station, laudrymat, nice coffee shop (all you need) near the office and a gold course down the road. The park entrance is only a mile from the motel. I actually preferred these cabins to any in the park (and they were all full when I booked this anyway). A great vacation!!

We spent 5 nights in cabin # 29 at the West Glacier Motel during July, 2008. The motel has 5 cabins about a quarter mile up the road from the motel units. The motel units are VERY basic and no frills, but the cabins are a great deal for the money and offer views and relative peace & quiet. These cabins are on a bluff overlooking the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, and are a very short drive from the entrance to the Going To The Sun Road.

Our family of four needed a "base" during our daily trips into Glacier National Park, and this place was perfect. The cabin was clean and had 2 comfortable queen beds, a regular size fridge, electric stove, sink, and dining table with 4 chairs. The bathroom was small, with a bit of a cramped shower, but clean and adequate. Daily maid service and clean towels were provided. We saved a ton of money by purchasing our week's food at the Super Walmart in Missoula, MT and cooking breakfast and some dinners in the cabin.

A large picnic area next to the cabins has a fire pit, ample firewood, some grills, and a few tables (be sure to bring matches, charcoal, and lighter fluid). This area overlooks the river far below... beautiful. Each night, travelers would sit around the campfire after cooking burgers or steaks, and share S'mores, photos, and stories of the day's adventures. Our family (Americans) spent the evening of July 4th sitting around the fire with 3 lovely couples from England! No hard feelings, right guys?!

If you're looking for a place to sleep and cook, and then explore the park during the day, these cabins are great. Shopping, WiFi, laundry, and a restaurant are a quarter mile down the hill if you need them. MUCH more quiet and peaceful than the crowded tourist chaos and noise down the road at Apgar Village! The staff were friendly, and the caretaker often joined us around the fire in the evenings.

  • Liked — Great Views, quiet, good value for the money, location
  • Disliked — Had to drive about 3 miles to get free WiFi, but you can purchase WiFi access in West Glacier Village

Don't expect much from this motel. It is right near the park gate and has very minimal amenities. I think that this place is only open seasonal. There are no TVs, air conditioning, fridges, coffee pots or any such common things one may expect to find. It is a bed in a very small and VERY dated room. I don't think this place has changed much since it was first built I would guess 40 or 50 years ago. There is no bathtub - just a small shower. There isn't even a radio or alarm clock in the room.

If you come with low expectations then you will not be dissappoitned. If you expect something other than a bed crammed into a small closet with a little adjoining bathroom then spend a few dollarrs more and go somewhere else. You get what you pay for.

However - the location can not be beat! And the area is very beautiful. I have stayed there twice to be honest because of the location - I just have reasonable expectations when I come.

  • Liked — Right at the end of the Road to the Sun (or begiing depending on which way you are going)
  • Disliked — Sparse with minimal amenities

This is without doubt an extremely amazing place. We spent the first night there (which was meant to be the only night) and we ended up spending a further 2 nights in the cabin and moved to another one jsut so we could stay an extra 3rd night. The 3 familys we met did likewise and the staff did as much as possible to fit us all in.
It has a bbq area with a fire area also, and having met americans in neighbouring cabins we spent most of the evenings with neighbours and shared bbq cooking, drinks and stories around the fire until the very very small hours.
The rooms are VERY CLEAN, the staff are VERY FRIENDLY and the VIEWS BREATHTAKING.
If anyone can find a problem with this place I will be very surprised, I would suggest taking the time to buy your dinner and cook it at the bbq area whilst starting a fire and after that experience I am sure you will want to extend your stay and probably not want to leave at all!
