While driving the Trail of the Mountain Spirit National Scenic Byway we stopped for a view of the pit. Information panels and a tire from a ore truck are displayed.

Amazing site! This is a mile long copper mine with descriptive placards at the road pull off. It's huge and apparently still active, though we couldn't see much going on. Stop and read about its history.

When driving by, take the time to pull off the road here and observe a working open-pit copper mine.

You get a great view of an open-pit copper mine using huge haul trucks to move the muck (soil). Bring your binoculars as its really big!
