“Wonderful Experience!”
Review of Cafe Un Mundo - CLOSED

Cafe Un Mundo
Cuisines: American
Description: Well known lunch stop with outdoor patio eating area and air-conditioned indoor seating. The building provides extra charm - an old-style filling station - perhaps from the 1930s - rehabed into a friendly little eating establishment with surprisingly fresh, creative cooking.

We had been trying to find an opportunity to visit Cafe Un Mundo and today we finally stopped in for lunch. The hours are quite limited but this is part of the charm and fits in with the total experience. The roasted red pepper and lentil soup was amazing! It tasted like it was full of only the finest ingredients. This was followed by a special of the day pork torta sandwich which is not on the menu. It was delicious and included slices of avocado as well as a few jalapenos to jazz it up. I went for the slider key lime dessert which was also a real treat. We'll definitely be back for more! As an added treat, we had a chance to visit with the co-owner who is charming and engaging.

Four of us had lunch there last week. We had soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. What a lovely lunch! ALL of our lunches were wonderful. And the soups- I've never called anyone a "Soup Master," before, but it definitely applies here. Even the two different ice teas were great. It was a beautiful day and we dined in the back patio area. The service was excellent, the food came out quickly. The place was hopping! They are definitely doing it right. If you've never been there, you are missing a fantastic, fun lunch. Ever had a key lime slider? It's to die for!!!

Un Mondo closes around 2 PM. They serve wonderful soup and salads. They also have sandwiches. It is intimate and friendly. On warm days you can sit outside in the back garden.

All the food is made fresh daily and often features food with a local flair. Ambiance is lovely because it actually has TREES for outdoor dining.

We visit friends in Silver City once a year. There are an amazing number of eating establishments in town and we can only visit a few each year. We have only two "must visits" - Don Juan's burritos and Cafe Un Mundo. We love checking in with Manny, but we wouldn't come back if the food wasn't excellent.

Today's lunch met the high bar we've set for this place. We had the cup of soup and half sandwich option. My wife's Cape Cod Chicken Salad sandwich was very good - perhaps the most popular sandwich on the menu. I had a really good turkey club. The homemade bread and fresh ingredients push the sandwiches from good to great.

But the soup is the biggest draw... every year we look forward to their latest creation. I hesitated today - Lemon Lentil just wasn't something I'd normally be attracted to. But I know Manny's wife is a soup genius, so we went with it. Wow! Fresh and full of flavors... surprisingly complicated for a lentil soup.

This is a quirky, slightly offbeat place... and we love it. We can imagine people who prefer a little more formal place not being able to adjust to the good spirits and charm - but we'll be back as long as they are willing to have us.

Thanks, Manny!
