Whilst travelling through the USA we went to Silver City and chanced upon this Wine Bar/Restaurant. The Wine Bar appealed as it was late afternoon and the weather was very hot. Eventually proceeded to a light dinner after wines and pate/crostini at the bar. The menu provides all meals in three sizes ( tapas, mezze and entree) which provides maximum flexibility in ordering. My wife and I both had two tapas which for us was adequate after a late lunch on the road. We have travelled extensively and this restaurant experience rates in our top experiences worldwide, including big and sophisticated cities in USA and also eating in Italy, France and Australia. If you are in Silver City don't miss it. Pricey for a full meal but worth it

Shevek & Co is THE place for fine dining in Silver City.
Their food is sourced with exceptional knowledge & appreciation of locale, variety, & the story behind it. The waiters' wine & dessert descriptions will leave you impressed, and the atmosphere is good. Formal, but not exclusive.

We had a wonderful meal. There were choices of getting items as tapas, half meals or full. So we had lots of things. Very high quality and interesting combinations. Worthy of a restaurant in Santa Fe.

Chef Shevek is ambitious, and it works most of the time. We have been to Silver City twice, and ate there both times, using the tapas approach with multiple small plates. Of the six that we tried (both visits) five were excellent. The sixth was a pasta dish...the sauce was ok, but the pasta was a bit undercooked. Overall, I would say that this compares to many "big city" restaurants that we like in the same mid-price category. We will definitely go back again when we return to southwestern NM. It was full both times we are there, so reservations may be a good idea. It is closed for the entire month after Memorial Day.

Thank you for your review. I wish you'd have told your wait person you would have liked the pasta cooked more and we would have remade or replaced the dish--this has always been our policy from the first day we opened our doors.
To correct only one part of your review:
We only close for 10 days after Memorial Day. We will be open once again for dinner on June 7, 2013.
Once again, thank you for your review and we're looking forward to serving you once again.

The food at Shevek is exceptional and just different enough from normal to be interesting without being intimidating. The wine and beer list is extensive and they also have a full bar. Service is attentive and prices are reasonable even if they are above average for a small town like Silver City. I'll definitely be back.
