New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge
Ranked #12 of 74 Hotels in Brooklyn
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 25, 2010

I only stayed at the Brooklyn Marriott for one night but was not disappointed with my well appointed room or my service. The accomodations were typical of a Marriott...comfy bed, great shower, bath, and all the staff that was not only helpful but friendly. Also convenient for me as I take my car everywhere, was the available in and out parking at the garage downstairs. I only needed to call ahead a few minutes to let them know I was on my way down and my bill was ready for me to leave quickly. I was there for business but was able to make it a great relaxing escape for one night in the midst of New York City. My room had a view and great breakfast from room service that was enough for two. (Great for a romantic getaway too)Of course I spent a good amount but it was worth it!

Whether I'm going to NYC for business or pleasure, the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott will always be my choice. I've stayed at most of the majors in Manhattan, and here are the ways in which this property excels (and why I've spent over 100 nights with them in the past 12 months:
The Rooms: They're huge. Even the smallest gives a feeling of spaciousness. The beds are comfortable, with excellent linens and pillows (and an extra blanket and pillow sealed in the closet). The bathrooms are spotless (and also large), with standard amenities but also wonderfully absorbent and soft towels. The showers actually put out a nice volume of water. Housekeeping is outstanding and thorough. Every room has fantastic views: the harbor with the Statue of Liberty, Verazano and Brooklyn (of course) bridges, and Manhattan stretching from Wall Street up to the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings.
The Location: A ten-minute taxi ride from lower Manhattan and Wall Street--20 minutes from Midtown. If you're inclined, the Boro Hall subway station has multiple routes that can take you to Wall Street (one stop), JFK Airport, Midtown or anyplace else. If you're driving, it's really easy to get to--with reasonably priced on-site parking.
The Cost: Even with an expense account, why should I (or my clients) pay up to $200 MORE/night when the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott is so reasonably priced. It's always significantly less expensive than comparable Manhattan properties.
The Neighborhood: One night on the elevator, I heard other guests talking about "where should we go for dinner in Midtown?" It was out of character, but I asked them if they'd ever been to Montague Street. And if YOU haven't, you should try it. Literally a five minute walk from the hotel, Montague is home to literally dozens of wonderful (and, again, less expensive than Manhattan) restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. And, it dead-ends into the Brooklyn Promenade, which has the best view of the harbor and lower Manhattan--especially at night. The hotel's restaurant is closed for dinner, but who needs it? (And there's great room service, too.)
The Staff: I saved the best for last. This hotel has absolutely the most amazing group of dedicated hospitality professionals. From the front desk people, to the bell and door staff, the housekeepers and finally, to the concierges, their attitude is one of helpfulness and caring.

The hotel is large, the rooms are very well appointed and larger than what I expected. The restaurant was excellent. The staff throughout the hotel was knowledgeable and friendly and the best thing of all was the gorgeous swimming pool. You never get a good pool in NYC.

This is a lovely hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. As it was my birthday we asked if there was any chance they could upgrade our room, this was not possible as the hotel was fully booked. However, later that evening there was a knock at the door and the receptionist had sent up some chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of wine! The hotel was very clean and really comfy. There is a subway right behind the hotel that takes about a minute to walk to. There are also some nice little restaurants and diners in the area within a 5 minute walk. I had visited New York before and we stayed in Times Square, although I enjoyed staying in Brooklyn this time as it is a bit more relaxed. I would recommend staying here to anyone!

Visited this hotel on business. Service is fine - front desk staff were accommodating, and I had forgotten some toiletries that they provided without hesitation. Though when I came back to my room after a day's work, it was like the maid had left in the middle of cleaning the room - the TV was blaring, a couple pillowcases strewn on the bedstand, my food service glasses still there. Otherwise, room is clean, comfy, with flat-screen TV. But no wireless internet the room - so inconvenient! Gym is larger than most hotels - ample cardio and weights, lap pool. Great location. But everything was overpriced. Room price, $14.95 for wired room internet access, room service. But it's NYC - not expecting a deal or anything...

My 2-night stay at this hotel over a weekend was absolutely delightful! The room was very quiet, immaculate and sooooo comfortable. The Jay St. subway stop is located right behind the hotel. I hopped on the F-line and got to Manhattan in less than 10 minutes and Rockafeller Center in 20 minutes. Internet is not free but the internet access home page allowed me to connect through a roaming account I have.

This hotel is fine if you're visiting for a short stay. The rooms are clean albeit dated, and if you have business in downtown Brooklyn, the hotel can be convenient. If, however, you are a frequent business traveler, the service is inconsistent and the staff is unaccommodating. There are no free perks such as free high speed internet or free breakfast, the location is several blocks and several busy streets away from the nearest subway lines, and catching a cab to go anywhere but in the city is next to impossible. Some of the staff are fine, but some are inconsiderate and thoughtless. Plus even if you have status with the Marriott chain, this hotel is very uneven in how they treat you. Oftentimes, they will not give you any consideration, regardless of how many nights you have stayed with them.
