“A Beautiful Winter Wonderland with a great tour guide”
Reviewed February 7, 2011

I visited Green-Wood Cemetery after New York City had been hit with alot of snow. I heard about the beauty of Green-Wood Cemetery but wanted to see what it looked like covered in snow. I also heard about how great and entertaining tour guide Marge Raymond was from some friends who had taken her tour in the summer. Well they were so right. Marge Raymond was so knowledeable about the famous permanent residents which included a trip to Battle Hill where I viewed the Statue of Liberty and a the NYC skyline and heard her narrate the story of the Batte of Brooklyn. I saw the sister statue to the Statue of Liberty upon that hill. It was awesome. Then we visited Leonard Bernsteins gravesite and she sang a beautiful rendition of his song "somewhere". Marge Raymond is a professional singer and she brings to the tour her great personality, her knowledge and passion of Green-Wood Cemetery. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone. It takes place on Wednesday at 1:00 PM and the last Sunday of the Month at 1:00 PM. She has several routes, so you can come back and see something different each time. Im coming back in the spring. She said the blossoms are spectacular. Green-Wood Cemetery is spectacular.

“Fascinating tour full of New York history”
Reviewed November 28, 2010

We took the trolley tour of Green-wood Cemetery on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November, and highly recommend it to tourists and native New Yorkers. Our guide, Marge Raymond, was informative, interesting, and had a delightful and friendly personality. We were on the "general tour," which offered highlights of this huge and historic cemetery. Among the most dramatic sights: the view of the statue of liberty from the hilltop; and seeing famous New Yorkers 'graves (including Leonard Bernstein). Ms. Raymond, a professional singer (with an authentic NY accent), even burst into song at a couple of appropriate points in the tour. The cemetery itself is beautifully landscaped and offers dramatic views of New York City and its surroundings. The tour offers a tribute to those interred there, and is not ever ghoulish or macabre. We drove, but the cemetery is accessible by subway.

“Where history & mystery meet”
Reviewed April 15, 2009

Green-wood cemetery is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in all of Brooklyn, New York. They offer tours on foot and by trolley car ride. It is the resting place of many historic people and has one of the largest number of Civil War veterans buried here. The head historian Jeff Richman offers many personally lead tours of this beautiful place.

“History and Scenery”
Reviewed March 9, 2009

A walk through the hills of Green-Wood is a lesson in NYC history, with plenty of scenery added on. Many of the headstones are spectacular, making it as much as a sculpture garden as a cemetary. During the spring and fall seasons, the trees are amazing. I've visited famous cemetaries in New Orleans, Paris and Buenos Aires, but Green-Wood beats them all in scenery.

“Peaceful & Serene”
Reviewed October 29, 2008

Went on 'family business' but found the walk very peaceful and beautiful within the turning leaves. If cemeteries don't spook you it's a great escape from traffic and noise and lots of interesting people interred there. The old markers are an art museum in themselves.
