Just returning from a trip to Texas I wondered how a new barbecue place in Brooklyn would stack up. It is without reservation that I say that Hometown is as good if not better than anything in Texas. We were a group of 11 people so I had the opportunity to try a number of different dishes, I strongly recommend the "beef rib." They cut it off the bone and the meat melts in your mouth. The brisket is also great. The atmosphere is as good if not better than that of a Texas barbecue joint. I love this restaurant and will most definitely be back.

Fun quirky place. The jerk chicken was very good. They had live music on Saturday which was a very nice bonus

As a person who has lived in Texas on two separate occasions I can honestly say that this place is the real deal. It is, in my opinion, the best BBQ in NYC and better than most places even in the great state of Texas. I love the owner Billy who was a Red hook local who went to Texas to learn from a BBQ Master (I think John Mueller, but I always forget) and has fought a hurricane sandy and many other setbacks to bring us Hometown. The food is amazing. Billy does it all and makes sure everything he serves is great and unique in some way. His mac and cheese was good but over the year he changed his recipe to make it even better by adding crunched tortilla chips and other magic. Must try's are the Beef Rib, Lamb Belly (I have never seen this anywhere and it is incredible), and for those traditionalists the Brisket is great!. For purists the meats easily stand alone but if you like some sauces like I occasionally do Billy's sauces are crazy good. Billy has a great BBQ sauce with a mixture of peppers but also has some coriander (I think). He has a vinegar Hog sauce for his pulled pork and a crazy BBQ Sriracha sauce that packs a great punch. My wife and I stumbled into home town the second day it was open and have not stopped going back and taking all of our friends there. Especially those that come to visit from Texas. We like it better than Hill Country (which is really not great), Brisket Town, and even Fette Sau (which I consider to be the second best BBQ in NYC).Aside from the ownership the location and restaurant itself are also great. I like that while it is packed it is not filled with too many people because of its location far from any train or busses. If you are in NYC and looking for the Best BBQ you have to go to Hometown.

A grand slam home run has been hit in Red Hook.

If you want a spectacularly wonderful barbecue experience, go thee to Hometown Bar-B-Que. This is where the craft of cooking is celebrated by presenting smoked meats that prompt responses reflecting total gustatory satisfaction.

The kitchen is dedicated to perfection, from brisket, to beef ribs, to pulled pork, to baby-back ribs, to Jerk chicken; need I go on? The mains eaten at our table were brisket, pulled pork, and baby back ribs. Wow, the four of us were so incredibly pleased with the quality of the preparation.

Oh yes, then there were the sides. You must try the smoked pit beans. Yum. Spicy but yummy and beyond. Collard greens, prepared with cured bacon. Yum. Slaw. Yum. Corn bread. Yum, yum.

To partake of the dining experience you wait in a line that moves first to the meat station, where it is served on a tray. From there you move a foot or two to the side station. The "station masters" were quite friendly and helpful.

Simply: move over Texas, you've got a lot to learn from Hometown Bar-B-Que. So if you are not a Vegan, do yourself a big favor and pay it a visit when you are in Brooklyn.
