For celebrating a special occasion as we did, I cannot see beyond the River Cafe as being the place to go for an evening meal. The service was exceptional, from the moment we arrived to the time we left. The staff throughout were geniune in their approach. The food lived up to its price and the views were clearly breathtaking.
If you approach this venue with the same high regard shown by the staff, then you will not be disappointed. Gents, please wear a jacket and embrace the evening with the respect that such a venue deserves.

We called in at The River Cafe today to confirm a booking made online from England for Sunday brunch. We were on hired bicycles and dressed accordingly casually. We decided it would be nice to stay for lunch and were immediately shown to a very nice table overlooking Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. My wife and I both had the 14 ounce sirloin steak with chips which was excellent both in taste and presentation. Our two children shared a steak which was equally beautiful. The unplanned meal was excellent in every respect with attentive but not intrusive service, possibly the best view in New York and all at a reasonable cost . I look forward to Sunday!

Fabulous food, service & decor. The views of the Manhattan skyline are breathtaking; you won't want to leave! Arrive early to stroll through the tiny garden in front - gorgeous!

Dined at the River Cafe with our family for our informal wedding lunch. The whole experience was very professional and our meals were excellent. Lunch prices were around $17 for appetizers and around $30 for mains, there was plenty of choice and no set menu. There were also lunch options for our children. If you like chocolate try the Brooklyn Bridge dessert!

The cafe itself was lovely inside but perhaps could have some fresh paint and some better attention to the restrooms.

Overall, this was a lovely dining experience and one that we had planned some time ago and have been looking forward to for many months. We were not disappointed. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a pre-theater dinner (we had tickets for concert in Bargemusic hall, located right next to the river cafe). The views are amazing, but other than that don't expect to get anything. I'll start by saying we were sitting in the terrace, which is less-formal, and perhaps this is the reason to the following points:
-service: slow and un-experienced. all waiters were young and seemed unprofessional. our waiter was nice, but others were simply horrible, and it took us almost 10 minutes just to get someone's attention to get a menu!! (we were already sitted, but weren't given any menu). Not to mention the need to specifically ask for water refill.

-Food: a MINIMUM of 25$ per person. seemed reasonable, but the dishes were so small that it didn't justify such price tag, in my opinion. we both went for salad and desert (apple tart and cheese cake- if I recall right, which weren't that good either).

40 minutes later, we were still hungry. It's a good thing that the famous Grimaldi's pizza is a few blocks away- after the concert we went there for a pizza- which was cheaper, more tasty, and certainly more satisfying.

Go there for a quick coffee cup if you want to see the beautiful view, I wouldn't reccomend sitting in the river cafe for anything more than that. but then again- there's a 25$ per person minimum
