“Great food in this terrific Russian restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2011

This is in the heart of the Russian area of Brighton Beach. It is a pleasant looking place that serves tasty food. Three of us went for lunch--they were out of cold beet borscht, so we all opted for Ukrainian borscht which was made the same as beet borscht, was warm, had cabbage and sour cream and was excellent--a large bowl was $6. The dumplings with grilled mushrooms and onioms was a large plate for $8--again an excellent dish. If in the area, this is a do not miss place.

“Best meal we had during our 9 day trip to New York!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2011

It is worth the trip. We saw it featured on the Anthony Bourdain travel/food show and wanted to try it. We are from New Orleans and are spoiled in regards to food options. This was the best meal we had on our 9 day trip to NY. It was fresh, homecooking. We took out kids ages 10 - 17 and they loved it too. We weren't sure since it was a Russian Cafe. Everything we ordered was excellent, homemade and hot and the portions were large. The prices were great. The service was excellent.

“Yes it is really worth the trip from Manhattan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2010

Having head about "Little Odessa" in Brighton Beach and Cafe Glechik, three of us decided to do it and travel from Manhattan, endure the parking nightmare but go on a week day for lunch. The food was great for folks who like this kind of cuisine. But if you are someone who wants to eat lite and expect to emerge without any weight gain from this place, forget it.

The "dumplings" are superb and the one we liked the best was chicken. The waiter suggested a salad of radishes, fried onions, liver and mayo. Sounded awful but we went for it and it was delicate, believe it or not, and very good. Also interesting was the rabbit stew. The fine fellow who took care of us was from Moscow and has explained the menu to newbies like us so many times, I think he could do it in his sleep. Most of the diners were Russian and anyone going must be prepared for a less than luxury toilet experience, sorry to say. But we were there for the food and nothing else.

But if you get a group of adventurous people and a way to be driven so parking is not a problem, then by all means the food is worth the trip and the whole experience will be memorable. Try many different dishes and the portions are very generous and shareable. If you get the same fellow from Moscow, he will point you in the right direction when ordering. Or look at what the Russians are eating!

After Glechik, go to the M&I Market on Brighton Beach Avenue. You will save the airfare to Russia and experience a very elaborate market full of Russian delights.
