I reviewed Aliseo in September 2011. Albano Ballerini (owner/manager/sometime chef) created another magic evening for four of us. We left ourselves in his hands - pairing wines and food. A succession of small portions of incredibly tasty, simply-prepared fresh ingredients beautifully presented with perfectly matched wines. A true foodie, Albano is always on the lookout for the freshest, best ingredients from local suppliers. Make a reservation, as locals in-the-know book ahead. Knowledgable, young, attentive staff serve with just the right touch. Let Albano know your preferences or limitations (food and budget) and leave the rest to him. Another evening of culinary heaven.

I totally concur with the review of MexTrav2011 posted on 9/30/11. We just attended a special occasion at this restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased. The prix fix menu included tasty and interesting courses that just kept coming. Don't miss it!

Aliseo Osteria del Borgo is a small (less than 30 seat) restaurant on Vanderbilt Avenue just a few blocks off of Grand Army Plaza (easily accessible from either the 2 or 3 (Grand Army Plaza stop) or the Q subway line (7th Avenue stop). Owner/chef Albano Ballerini is a true foodie who creates special combinations of simply prepared dishes paired with amazing wines. Trust Albano to create your meal - he knows what he is doing. He also owns local pizzaria Amorina which is much easier on the pocketbook and always busy.
Fresh pastas, amazing fish (always the simplest, freshest preparation), veggies in season, and the perfect wines to accompany - which never overwhelm, but perfectly support the cuisine are the norm. Locals know to let Albano work his magic. Staff is attentive and will suggest appropriate combinations to meet your budget. Whenever possible, trust Albano to create your meal - from appetizer to dessert along with perfectly-paired wines. A great spot for a special occasion. Reservations definitely suggested. They often have Prix-Fixe with variously-price wine pairings - a good deal and worth it for the match-up of food and wine. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed the meal here but the price of the wine was completely over the top. I ordered a glass of red without checking the price and when I gotl the bill it was $19 just for the glass!

However food was simple and tasty. The "Ladies" toilet is magic. Worth a look.
