When Fragole 1st opened almost 6 years ago it was our favorite "NEW" Italian Restaurant in Carroll Gardens. While it never replaced our old favorite 'Italian-American' Restaurant it was a great place for what's considered authentic modern Italian (Med-Coast) food.
Their flavors & combinations remined us of Capri and Sorrento. Food was fresh & the flavors were perfectly balanced. We ate their at least 4 times a month.
However, the original managing partner/co-owner went to open thier 3rd or 4th place elsewhere and this place (as far as the food is concerend) fell apart. All their red sauce tastes the same - which isn't always a bad thing. But in this case, their red sauce has the strong taste of Tomato Paste with a strong over-tone of Burnt Sauce from the bottom of the pot covered by too much oregino. This is the Triple Threat for Italians everywhere - you do not cut corners by starting with Paste instead of slow cooked tomatoes, you ALWAYS keep stirring the pot so the sauce doesn't burn and you NEVER add oregeno to cover the 1st 2 mistakes - - - that combo is your aunt's worst Pizza Sauce.
