Had dinner here on Memorial Day - Sat outside, very nice atmosphere. Good food and service. Authentic Italian food.....look for little details in the food that make it authentic and tasty.

“Delicious food comfortable armosphere”
Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

Cozy place with friendly staff who were hospitable while we waited for the cooking staff to start cooking...we arrived early...made reservation through Savored App which gave us 20%off. Would have easily paid full price for the great food. I had the braised short ribs and my guest had the homemade pasta Ragu. Perfect portions. This was worth the subway ride. The only thing I would change would be to expand the menu. The menu I viewed on trip advisor was much larger I was hoping for gnocchi!

“Trying Too Hard?”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

We had a very fun dinner at Aurora Ristorante, although it wasn’t due to the food. We had a group of six, and the service throughout the meal was perfect, attentive, but not overly so, and inconspicuous when it needed to be. At one point the lead server came over to ask about dessert selections while one of our group was engrossed in telling a story. After standing, silent and patiently, for a while, she slipped away to let the story reach its conclusion.

This was during the Brooklyn Dines week, and several of our group ordered from the fixed price ($28) three course menu. The cuisine at Aurora can’t decide if it wants to be traditional Italian a new kind of Italo-American/Fushion/Farm-to-Table innovation. The result is a mishmash. A roasted vegetable appetizer confused roasted with freshness, and resulted in undercooked root vegetables while softer veggies were beyond caramelized. A nicely crusted piece of fluke was improbably placed on a bed of chard over a puree of beet. The leaf vegetable and puree were too close to offer any contrast. Polenta (as was printed on the menu) would have been a better choice.

The pasta dishes were much better, although best when they stayed closest to their Italian origins. A Brussels sprout gnocci and a beet-infused arancini just seemed to be trying too hard to be creative, perhaps a response to a young clientele that seems to thrive on odd juxtaposition. Dessert featured an outstanding chocolate bread pudding. Wines were great and professionally served.

With the basics of ambiance and service in place, the food didn’t need to try quite this hard. Luckily, long after the specifics of the meal are forgotten, the memory of a joyful feast will remain.

“Go for lunch!”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Aurora is great, one of my local favorites. I'm dithering over whether to tell you how great lunch is as I don't want people taking my table. Mine! Not on the website menu but normally there is a lunch special for a glass of wine with your food for not much money. Drink at lunch and work on that god awful project, that your boss/client/Jack Donaghy is making in to just the stupidest-idea-ever, and drift through tha afternoon in a lovely haze. Mmmmm
