This place was a great find...located in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn right along the pier its a fun visit. We took a cab over from Manhattan via the Battery tunnel and only took about 20 minutes from midtown, you can also take a combo of other transportation, on the return we walked from the winery through the Red Hook section to the IKEA store which has a free water taxi which runs every 40 minutes and takes you back to the Wall Street pier in Manhattan. For us there were several other cool little places in RedHook section worth a stop, there is a chocolate plant, a brewery and several other neat places. Red Hook is an old shipyard dock area (Queen Mary docks there cuz its deeper water) that is going through a redevelopment phase, some sections are still very funky which you should stay away from, but for the most part the area around the winery is very safe.

If you contact the winery they will set up a tasting and short tour(the winery is quite small), they are experimenting with New York State varietals trying to mix and match grapes to find blends that are unique...we tried 6 different wines, the reisling was pretty good and the reds were a little rough, but we did find a 2008 red that we took home. Its a fun place to visit, and give your self another hour or two to explore RedHook.

The newly reopened Red Hook winery is a perfect place to enjoy some wine with a great atmosphere and view. After hurricane Sandy, the winery has reopened and is super chic but unpretentious. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the vintages. It is a great place to sit and enjoy a tasting or your favorite Eine from a tasting and soak in the great view.

Stopped by to see the winery and taste some of Red Hook's offering. Given that I find most NY state made reds of less than stellar quality, I opted for a tasting of the whites, particularly the Riesling, which in NY State can be a lovely, lovely wine.

While one often enjoys wine and cheese, I did not expect the first wine to taste like cheese. A sort of semi-soft ripe cheese. Moving up from the "least" of the wines to a better one, there was some fruit, cantaloupe to be exact. While I don't associate cantaloupe with Riesling, the worst part was the cottage cheese flavor that came out. A quick spit to say the least.

The top wine tasted was just too much, especially when the woman who poured it took pride in the fuel oil taste and aroma. Seriously, Riesling by EXXON?

I have never been to a winery that took pride in abusing a grape. They managed to destroy all that makes the Riesling great in Germany, Alsace and the Finger Lakes of NY.

Better off taking you $5 and going around the corner and getting a frozen, chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick at Steve's.

In sum a pompous and poor pour to say the least.

Had a group event at Red Hook Winery this past weekend, and was blown away! An all-around terrific experience.
A self-claimed veteran of the New York entertainment scene, I was surprised that I hadn't heard of the winery until friends planned this event for a joint birthday party.
Their unique model since launching in 2008 has been to buy grapes from local vineyards, mostly North Fork, and then make wines on premises. Their location is the revitalized Red Hook waterfront, an intriguing contrast of hip urban development and old NY maritime heritage. We were lucky to have a sunny day with lots of community activity and great views of Miss Liberty and NY harbor.
Best of all, Sandra (spelling?) gave us a great educational tour and was extremely generous with the wine pouring. Our group left with several discounted cases and a bit of a sway as we carried them to our waiting cabs. Highly recommended!
(Note: Though they did provide some cheese snacks, this is not a food experience - we planned nearby meals before and after)
