Description: Welcome to Juliana's, a New York-style pizzeria. Juliana's heralds the return of Patsy Grimaldi-not only to the NYC restaurant scene, but to the original location under the Brooklyn Bridge where he co-founded Grimaldi's Pizzeria with his late wife, Carol. Unbeknownst to many, Pat & Carol severed their affiliation with Grimaldi's in 1999 when they sold the business (along with the name). Even though they were no longer involved in the restaurant, they never lost their passion for serving truly great pizza. And so, with a desire to re-live a "dream come true", they have partnered with close friend and former guest Matthew Grogan to establish Juliana's, a neighborhood pizzeria, preparing and serving pies the way Patsy has for generations. Named in honor of Pat's mother, Maria 'Juliana' Lancieri, Juliana's occupies 19 Old Fulton Street, in the Fulton Ferry Historic District, in the building that was once home to Grimaldi's.

Actually wanted to go to Grimaldi's due to the Jon Stewart recommendation. However, the line was way too long - 45+ minute wait at 1:30 in the afternoon (and it was very cold outside). So we jumped on the shorter line at Juliana's - only a 10 minute wait. We were certainly not disappointed. We sat at the bar, which gave us a great view of the pizza chefs. Damn, can they swirl the dough and prepare a pizza about every 2 minutes! That was quite entertaining. Of course the pizza was delicious. Amazingly thin crust, nice and crispy. Minimal sauce makes the pieces very neat to eat. A worthwhile experience.

Great pizza place very well located just below the bridge when you get to the park, nice option to have lunch after crossing the bridge. Food is excellent and the place is walking distance to all there's to see around and near to the subway station to go back to Manhattan.

During a recent "girls" trip to New York City, we had the opportunity to go on a tour with Free Tours by Foot to the downtown area. Our guide, Derrick, lives in Brooklyn and during the tour happened to tell us the Grimaldi story. He said if we had a chance to get over the bridge to try it out which we did before leaving. Juliana's is directly next door to Grimaldi's. We went to lunch there on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Sadly we did not get to meet Mr. Grimaldi because he doesn't come in until 5:00 but we were served well by Terrence. The food and service was superb and we even bought 6 cannoli for the trip home.....also delicious. Terrence even called a cab for our trip back to Manhatten.

One great point to make is that Mr. Grimaldi only hires people from a halfway house for his wait staff. Kudos to him for giving people a second chance.
