My dad has an art studio in Williamsburg and when my mom and I visited him last month, he was very excited to take us to his favourite restaurant in the area: La Nonna.
The decor is sort of rustic and pleasant. The service is great, my dad sort of knew the owner's dad because he eats there so often, this time around, we talked to the owner and she is very warm and friendly.
And the food... wow. Everything we saw on the other tables looked amazing and what we had was just delicious.
We shared the zucchini blossom appetizer to start. It was very good but so sweet because of the orange reduction that it tasted a bit more like dessert than a starter. Still very tasty though.
Then for mains, I had the penne (the first one on the menu, forgot the name), it was amazing. The pasta wasn't overcooked but not undercooked either. The veggies and cheese and everything about that dish was just great. My parents both had the seafood ravioli that was one of the specials that night. They loved it. I had a taste and it was very good, although I didn't regret my choice.
We split tiramisu for desert and again, it was delicious. Probably the best tiramisu I've tried. The cake had absorbed exactly the right quantity of coffee and therefore had perfect taste and texture. Yum! When I go back to New York, I will definitely eat there again.
It was pretty cheap too. Really excellent value.
