This is a really fun experience. It is fairly easy to take the subway to the area and then you have about a 10 or 15 minute walk to the Smorgasburg. Bring cash as I don't believe anyone takes credit cards. There is a huge assortment of foods to try so pace yourself. Before you decide what to eat, take the time to walk around and see all the vendors because everything is great!
I do not suggest this for anyone with young kids as it is not a very family friendly experience. I think it would be difficult to manage a stroller through the crowds and there are not many areas to sit down except on the grass.
Great views of NYC skyline from here too.

We did this the first time we went to NYC on our first day there. My friend who lives in Brooklyn took us and said it was a great way to experience Brooklyn. Parts of Brooklyn aren't so nice, but this is a really nice area. You're right across the from the NYC skyline with lush green grass to relax. All of the food vendors have delicious food with super trendy designs. When we went, it was the first Saturday of really warm weather in 2013, so it was absolutely packed. We had to wait in line for the more popular booths, but not all vendors had lines. Regardless, it was worth it. If you're into indie fashion, this was a fun place to see lots of very fashionable hipsters.

I think it is worth the trip, especially for foodies. Tourist to NYC would like the Sunday version in DUMBO. It is nicely situated in the Brooklyn Bridge Park, with beautiful views of the skyline and the bridge. So it is worth the trip out for that. The Williamsburg location is worth it for those looking for a "hipster" slice of NY. Either way it is worth tit for the amazing food vendors. We like to go a few times each summer.

Went to Smorgasburg in Williamsburg on Saturday, and it was an unbelievable and overwhelming food experience. Every food stand looks delicious and it is so difficult to pick the handful of food items to try. Best to go with a small group so you can try more. Be prepared to wait in lines and to shell out a decent amount of cash if you go when you are starving! But it is worth it and is one of the more unique and interesting foodie events in the world.

More than 75 food vendors from all over the world selling their delicious food on the river bank i.e. eating sitting on the lawn (or on the sand of the super small beach) looking straight to Manhattan's skyscrapers.
It could be very hot in the summer and there's a very little shade, but still worth for a relaxing sunday.
