GO to La Vara and EAT. Sit at the bar and talk with the bartender to get the skinny on what's good. Make friends with the people sitting next to you. Order the best rum and coke you'll ever have (then go buy a bottle of the rum). Forget your life for a couple of hours and enjoy yourself. Everything tastes good. I am glad this place is just a few blocks from my front door. Excellent place to take visiting friends.

This is honestly one of the best meals I've ever had and I have eaten in a lot of restaurants in a lot of countries. The cuisine is similar to the type of cuisine you might find at Moro in London, there is a Moorish/Spanish influence. It is executed beautifully. I can't wait to have another opportunity to go again. It was definitely an experience, despite the long wait for a table, and really fabulous, beautifully done food.

The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. I had two dishes from the specials list. These aren't on the normal menu. They were created from the mind of La Vara chef Alex Raij. It's easy to see why he was voted Chef of the Year by the 2012 Eater Awards. The first was shrimp on a bed of shredded squid with a wonderful white sauce over it. The second dish was layers of potato and stewed tomatoes topped by cauliflower and a nice red sauce. This was all broiled under high heat. I highly recommend a visit to La Vara. I predict it will be a dining experience you won't soon forget.

I'm proud to be a Brooklyn native as different neighborhood within Brooklyn are attracting restaurant owners and foodie for a dynamic change in the food scene. Especially La Vara, unique spanish tapas establishment in a quaint corner of Cobble Hill, I no longer have to travel to the city for good food. Nice, comfortable decor makes you feel welcoming and not uptight compare to many restaurants in Manhattan but a touch of the neighborhood feel. Think most the visitors are from the neighborhood or foodie willing to travel for a extraordinary culinary experience. Great selection of tapas and fine entrees which is above expectation. I've been to many tapas restaurants in Manhattan and Barcelona, I say this is the closest you will get to Barcelona style dining in a distinctive corner of Brooklyn. Come chow up and enjoy the cobble hill scenery, cheers!

Had a fantastic night at this Cobble St restaurant.
Great food, perfect setting and great staff. Visited with my Brooklyn based daughter, son in law, son (who is a chef)and his partner. Had a window seat, soaking up the Brooklyn atmosphere.
My foodie son was very Impressed and he has eaten is some of the worlds best.
