Great area to visit with some wonderful bars and a fantastic outdoor vibe, it's a bit of a journey for a night out if staying in New York but well worth it.

Great place for a stroll, a bite to eat a walk in the park or a place to live. Parking is a rough one though. taking the subway is the best way to go or if you have a few bucks, take a cab. I prefer to walk over the bridge once in a while.

Though tiny, Dumbo is a must-do if you decide to explore Brooklyn. A real mecca for artists, bohemian-style urbanites, the community is filled with terrific organic restaurants, lots of coffee shops and boutiques worth exploring. The neighborhood has a real urban beat and is great for exploring. The view of the Brooklyn Bridge is spectacular and well worth a photo or two.

So, I grew up 40 miles East of New York, on a poultry farm. I visited NYC 3x, never quite liking it. Then, off to college, with one more visit to MAnhatten.

This visit I was there to see my two daughters, one recently transplanted from Miami Beach, the other a ten+ year resident of the area. We drove to DUMBO, which immediately reminded me of my years in Pittsburgh and visits to Boston, Seattle and Vancouver. These are all favorite places of mine. It was nightime, and we saw Manhattan in its beauty from, as one daughter said: "The best place, far away across the river."

Sunday mornings in DUMBO (under the Brooklyn Bridge) upscale vendors set up food kiosks and make it hard to do anything but feast on delightfully exotic food. It was a sweltering hot summer Sunday, so we found every possible way to keep cool: exotic lemonades, ice teas and just plain ices. The Doughnut Plant has a food stall offers double sized cake and yeast doughnuts. I was lucky to find a vendor that offered Pani Puri, a nice break from all the saturated fat meat offerings. Still I could not resist the $3 maple glazed bacon bits on a stick, so tender they melted in my mouth. This food crawl is worth repeating.
