Owner description: Dumbo, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It encompasses two sections: one located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, which connect Brooklyn to Manhattan across the East River, and another that continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Vinegar Hill area.

We parked in Dumbo and walked across the Manhattan Bridge. On our return, we spent some time there and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. There are plenty of places to eat and lots to see. There were wedding parties taking pictures during our time there and they were great to watch. We had ice cream and just walked around enjoying the water view. There is a carousel and a little beach front area. It is all so picturesque!

Our favorite no. 1 daughter suggested that we go to Dumbo for a visit and picnic lunch. We took the B63 bus all the way to DUMBO. I was suffering from gout so my wife and daughter left me on a bench by the beach volleyball courts and went for a walk all the way to the Brooklyn bridge. The city must be commended for this undertaking as it was alive with families, bicycle riders, roller skaters, runners and just plain walkers who were enjoying the gorgeous day. We did too.

Before (or after) you walk over the Brooklyn Bridge hang out and explore DUMBO. There are many new shops and some older places to check out.

Over the Brooklyn bridge is a new park called the Waterfront park. It runs along the waterfront directly across from ground zero and lower Manhattan. This park is fantastic, it has everything, long promenades, several children's playgrounds for several ages of children, benches for sitting, water gardens, grass, rolling hills, a carousel which has a housing designed by Norman Foster so it is exquisitely beautiful, it is a glass box. The ride is $2.00. Brides come to be photographed because the back drop of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges is so dramatic it makes the perfect photograph. Often the are two or three brides at once and thus they become the attraction. I like to go bride viewing as well as walk thru the park! there is an ice creamery that is to die for and usually a line. And there is a small ferry for rides across the river. Wow, plus you can see the Statue of Liberty.

This area has a GREAT little spot to capture a photo of the Manhattan bridge with the Empire State viewable through the piers.

One of my favorite area restaurants Gran Electrica is in this neighborhood, along with a great shop called Brooklyn Industries. Great place to get some local goods. Bags, clothes and the like.
