“Nannyville”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

Restaurants abound, but the bars have the best atmosphere. If nothing else, you won't find "cute" toddlers in there.

Spoiled children raised by weekday nannies seem to be the rule here, though. The parents (who believe sitting in a restaurant with their progeny is evidence of quality time) seem to think their screaming offspring are no reason to leave a restaurant. Bring ear plugs. Or pop in the iPhone earbuds and drown out the little buggers. They're EVERYWHERE.

Lots of great shops, restaurants and bars. Trendy part of the city. Good place to have as a base while visiting NYC.

“Great alternative to Manhatten”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

We always stay in NYC and this time we said we are doing Brooklyn. We stayed in Park Slope and even though it is slightly more than other areas it is well worth it. 5th and 7th Ave are a hive of acivity. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and nightlife all within easy walking distance. Union Station/ 7th Ave take you into Manhatten fairly quickly. Lots of great architecture including the brownstones. It was hard to miss the young hip women with their babies and strollers.

“It's all about Prospect Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2012

This is a very large neighborhood, so it's hard to say it's all worth a visit. However, if you want to get a sense of how New Yorkers would prefer to live, this is a good place to start. Prospect Park is great, more beautiful than Central Park - but less clean - and has a great vibe all around. TONS of good places to eat. There is also the Superhero Store, which for my dollar is the single coolest place in New York City - cooler even than anything in Williamsburg/Greenpoint. This is a day 2 or day 3 trip for most first time visitors. But if you are interested in seeing how NYers really live, this is a prime spot. I had a friend visiting from London the other day and she said a lot of the neighborhood reminded her of Paris. I can't disagree.
