I'm visiting a friend that recently moved to Brooklyn and we decided to stop at this restaurant while we were walking around downtown. We both grew up in Texas, so we've had our share of Mexican/Spanish food, even around NYC. We started with the chips and salsa of course, and noticed that the salsa had an odd tomato-y flavor to it. The chips were great - nice and thick - but the salsa wasn't worth dipping them in. I also noticed it was odd that the first round of chips and salsa was free, but after that, they are $4 - NOT typical of a good Mexican restaurant, even in the city. I ordered the cheese chili relleno and he ordered 3 flautos with rice and beans. My friend, who doesn't even cook, said he could make better Spanish rice than that. It was bland and tasteless. The beans were unseasoned and the cheese on top was unbelievably dry. The red sauce on my chili relleno was not the usual sauce for such a dish, in any way - it tasted like MARINARA. Overall, my dish had the taste and consistency of a slice of fried cheese pizza sitting in marinara sauce. It was really weird and not what I was expecting from a Mexican restaurant at all. His flautos were pretty gross, too. None had any seasoning - the chicken and beef ones tasted like bland boiled meat, and the cheese one seemed to be mozzarella, though we're not entirely sure. Either way, it was like a cheese stick wrapped in a fried tortilla - maybe it was string cheese? The entire experience was a let-down and we will not be going there again. There are plenty of better restaurants in the area; no need to waste your time here.
